Possible Evidence That Our Universe is a Computer Simulation

Free episodes:

Could this theory explain Heaven? Could the programmer be God?

Great discussion. I've been reading it all week. I'm not religious, but I do believe our consciousness survives our physical death. How? I have no idea. But, if that is the case, perhaps our consciousness or "soul" is sent here to live and learn within the program, then returns to the programmer with our "data" when we die. In other words "Heaven" is the true reality were are consciousness originates and Earth is the simulation. I like to think the truth of our existence lies somewhere between science and creation. Or that they are one in the same. At the very least, these two concepts could fit together.

Glad you are enjoying the discussion Rob. I just love this stuff and have been into it now since the early 1980s when it was still in the "Holographic Universe" phase. Could this theory explain Heaven? Yes it could. But the evidence suggests that the word "Heaven" actually originated as a synonym for the sky. It was only later turned into a religious la la land by those who used it as a promise of paradise in order to instill obedience to the church. Could the programmer be God? God is a separate concept from that of a universe creator, although if there were a universe creator and you were inclined to deify it ( him ... her ... whatever ) then it would amount to the same thing. Could it facilitate life after death? Absolutely. But does it really? We don't know. I'd like to think so.

Thanks for validating my thoughts...
Along the same line of thought. If every soul is a new soul (not recycled) and all are still conscious since the beginning of man, what effect would that have on the program? Could that possibly explain our expanding Universe and/or our expanding intelligence. Kind of like a self-learning program building upon itself. Perhaps our reality was just kick started, and we've done the rest ourselves. Very interesting.

Theres a lot of speculation and assumptions going on there. For example the idea of "souls". What are we really saying? People often use it synonymously with "spirit", but that is no better at discerning what we're really talking about. What it comes down to is that words like "soul" and "spirit" have become new agey buzz words to facilitate fuzzy concepts like life after death and so on. But once again, what are we really talking about? When we look at it more objectively, the issue boils down to a continuity of consciousness, memory and personality. Anyone lacking these things would certainly also be lacking in "spirit" and would hardly be considered as the same person we once knew. What effect would this have on the program? If we assume that the program is storing complete information about us for retrieval at a later date, then we can assume that each person's file requires a certain amount of memory space in the system. A system with the capacity to generate a universe of this complexity implies a memory storage capacity that would be more than sufficient. Would it have anything to do with universe expansion? I don't think so. Universe expansion would be the result of the system iterations on the various algorithms that are responsible for the behavior of matter and energy ( physics ).
