Russian Opposition Leader Poisoned. Will Trump Take Yet Another Page Out of Putin's Playbook?

Free episodes:

I don't think I'll vote. I don't feel American, like I belong here. I'm just a stranger to these parts and I shouldn't put in my two cents. It is for other people to do.

Of course I don't want any priests shot with tear gas. I shouldn't have said that. I had not even heard about that event very much, as I said I don't pay much attention to the news.

Gene, if you would, please remove me from this forum. I know I shouldn't be here. For some reason the notices of new posts started coming in my inbox a while back again and so sometimes I want to jump in and say a few things, as though I have something to add.

That's what I'm always told on forums, but the problem is that it isn't necessarily known by others (should they wish to say something else to me) that I'm not receiving the messages, so I think it's better to be removed and the account marked as inactive or banned or something.

Another method is if there were a setting to mark as "away" next to the name, or "on holiday."

Or I could just type "bye." That would be the mature thing to do.

I still don't like the way that works, though, with forums... I liked the way AOL Instant Messenger was, in that it would show if you're online or not. Or you could set it to "away."

I know, but other people think that I am. And then it's implied that I'm ignoring the other person or I'm too scared to reply, or something like that. (this isn't just about me! It's about millions of people who have used web forums and newsgroups since the early 1980s!!) It's just a basic problem in internet communication I don't like..

Hey Stalepie, I will monitor this thread over the upcoming years and periodically mention that you are no longer able to respond as you have removed yourself from the cohort. Of course, there is a chance that you may never see this message. It is a chance that I must take. Just know that if you ever need me you can reply on this thread with the following message and I will know it is you, "thr33 thr33 Pipp3n P33".

Do not go gentle into that good night

Communism isn't even communism any more. Does anyone actually think that China is actually still communist?

That is free market ideology directly interfacing with 2000 years of feudalism.
Marduk,
Complete Bullshit , Going ask the Hong Kong residents and talk to the families who escape the grip of the regime especially the ethnic groups and Christians who had their churches torn down just like Stalin.

I didn't say China wasn't authoritarian and I didn't say they were good.

I said that they weren't really communist.

Not every bad state actor is communist, and not every anti-communist state actor is good. The Nazi party was fascist and very anti-communist. Castro was communist, and was mostly benign to Cuban people. McCarthy was clearly anti-communist but also clearly authoritarian, and hence I would also argue anti-democracy. All of those except Cuba were capitalist.

The problem here is that some people are thinking in terms of the 1950s, and the communist threat of that era. They can't see how these governments have changed even if they are no less dangerous.

That's one thing I can't quite wrap my head around in the US. When I talk to my 'merican friends, all of a sudden (like the last year or so) socialism in any way is suddenly a great evil. Like even the word itself is some kind of insult.

When America has a longstanding tradition of being a social democracy, just like much of the rest of the world. Maybe to a lesser extent than many, such as Canada, but the state (taxes) do pay for roads, schools, military, and all kinds of other things. Is this a Trump thing that all of this is suddenly evil?

I mean, pure capitalism is as bad as pure socialism, maybe more so.

The right wing deliberately conflated socialism with communism in its criticisms. They are often living in the 1950s, when America was "great," except, of course, for blacks.

Well talk to the proud people of Vietnam who now realize the Communism system doesn't work and have been attacked numerous times by Communist China. My brother in law who father fought against the Veit -Cong and its Chinese-Russian-North Korean forces would disagree with your comments on Communism Gene. His family lost everything in fighting for right to speak freely and own private property. That's why Vietnam is very concerned with the 'Red Dragon; on its doorstep and become a strong USA support of Donald Trump they see the real world not the bubble.
