Sleep Paralysis Event

Free episodes:

Angel of Ioren

Friendly Skeptic
I had a sleep paralysis event last night and it was pretty terrifying. That got me thinking. If someone like myself can be that frightened by something I understand (yeah, that makes me sound like a know-it-all, but it isn't my intention), it makes me realize why someone would jump to the conclusion of demons or aliens to explain it.

No no, I've had plenty, which is why I'm so critical of most alien abduction scenarios. They are always terrifying, although I now realize what is going on within a few seconds and I just sit back and wait for it to end.

I used to have a lot of these angel when I was younger something on the order of once a month , the majority of them...but not all...the real traumatic ones. Some of them were "minor" attacks I never saw any entities associated with these attacks and I was never really able to relate them to any personal conflicts or troubled periods. Many attacks would occur when all was right in my world

I still have some minor episodes but I actually " tell " myself "well here we go again" and it's over very , very quickly. I never really looked into it at the time so I didn't know the causes of them but my instinct told me I was being abducted because in addition to some of the experiences mentioned, even though I couldn't move, I thought (?) I could feel my legs being tugged at or feel myself being lifted up from my bed. In the past ten years or so I have had very few attacks on this order but I do experience the other associated phenomena bells, tones, tinkling etc.

Now here's the punchline. About a decade ago while going through a major attack...and still been unaware of the mechanics behind the event...I just got fed up with the whole thing. I told my unseen abductors I was fed up, I knew who they were, I knew they were there, and I wasn't going to let them get away with it. I was sick of it. every since that time I have had maybe a handful (if any) major attacks...the disturbing traumatic kinds...but as I said, I still do experience smaller ones but only every few months and they don't seem unpleasant. Also as far as I could remember these were hypnopompic, not hypnagogic in nature.

it was like my brain said " o.k. Wade, I guess it's up to me to handle this" and took action, because as I said I didn't at the time reason it out or look into the causes of these attacks I just accepted them.

I haven't had one for a while, scratch that, actually not long ago! It was 'mild' in that I managed to force myself out of it. Only those who have have had sleep paralysis will understand what I mean in 'forcing myself out of it' - which is the only option other than wait it out.

It doesn't matter if you are aware of what's happening - it is as terrifying as paralysis is to the able-bodied. Only once have I had one that crossed into an 'abduction' which I know was only my mind but it certainly gave me an insight into why people could be convinced about abductions.

Are there not a few troubling cases of multiple-witness abductions? I don't know how to explain that!

Angel, I don't know about anyone else but I found a sure-fire way to get 'out' of a sleep paralysis event that works every time:

I found that even if my whole body was paralysed I could still wiggle toes or fingers. It's like somehow muscles at the periphery are less affected. Anyway, whilst paralysed you will find (I think) that you can indeed wiggle your big toe. As soon as you realise you can do that you need to work back up toward the body by moving the lower leg, upper leg etc until you are moving something big enough to jerk you out of the whole thing.
You very much have to keep the momentum of this process going, it's like running up a sand dune, if you stop you will sink back but if you keep going to the top, you win.

Also, if this does work, I strongly suggest you physically get up for a while and don't allow yourself to go back to sleep - I have found that I am always prone to going straight back 'into' one if I've just escaped one. I've literally had about 8 in a row and I thought I was losing my mind until I realised I needed to get up and use the brain until the possibility of 'relapse' had gone!

I don't know if anyone else has this or any other method of getting 'out' of sleep paralysis and I would me most interested to hear if they do, esp if it is totally different than my own?

What's interesting is that if felt like I had a cat sleeping on top of me, which would happen quite often. So for a second I thought it was my cat, until I realized we haven't had a cat in the house for over a year. I miss my cats...

Two good points, goggs, after suffering my "near abductions" I would get up, maybe go the bathroom and go back to sleep, because I figured those greys wouldnt dare come back for the evening.

And like you said when I did go through these individual episodes I did fight my way out , because I thought I was being grabbed for pete's sake...despite my statement above of just accepting it..But it was that one episode where I took the bull by the horns and basically proclaimed "that's it , we are done here" that was my breakthrough

And it's been part of the lore for ever - this having something physical pressing down on the abdomen. It used to be a witch kneeling on someone and now it seems to be greys immobilising people for an abduction!
It's only cos of sleep paralysis that I would even give an 'abductee' the time of day. I can fully understand people thinking they have been abducted as the paralysis certainly has the ability to make that seem the case.

Oh Angelo, you almost got me crying - we were a family that grew up with lots of kittens from one main cat...Olivia. When she had to be put down, my father walked up the street with her body crying his eyes out - I didn't see him cry when my brother died! (men eh?)

Yeah I miss my cat too.

I do have a few hypnogogic episodes in the form of those little leg or knee jerks, but that's pretty much it. I had this discussion on another thread earlier this spring, and I stumbled across a web page...not necessarily authoritative...that seemed to indicate that episodes of hypnogagia (falling asleep) are associated with the old hag syndrome and hypnopompia(coming out of sleep) are associated with alien abductions, I'm pretty sure I remembered it correctly, which if true, would be interesting. Why would the human body compartmentalize two opposite but related phenomena into two seperate experiences? I'll see if I can track it down

Dudes, I totally thought Sleep Paralysis Event was a thread about an advert for another scraping the bottom of the barrel UFO type conference. perhaps a mass sleep over joint abduction old hag type show with guest speakers and shit.

"4.) Severe anger can also be a cause. Ephesians 4:26 says: In your anger do not sin, Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold."
