when is said this site i was referring to the crazy sleep paralysis site not the paracast(thats a given anyway).

I had a sleep paralysis event last night and it was pretty terrifying. That got me thinking. If someone like myself can be that frightened by something I understand (yeah, that makes me sound like a know-it-all, but it isn't my intention), it makes me realize why someone would jump to the conclusion of demons or aliens to explain it.

wait till you see a giant floating structured shape thats two miles across moving slowly across the sky. youll jump to some crazy shit after that.

I do have a few hypnogogic episodes in the form of those little leg or knee jerks, but that's pretty much it. I had this discussion on another thread earlier this spring, and I stumbled across a web page...not necessarily authoritative...that seemed to indicate that episodes of hypnogagia (falling asleep) are associated with the old hag syndrome and hypnopompia(coming out of sleep) are associated with alien abductions, I'm pretty sure I remembered it correctly, which if true, would be interesting. Why would the human body compartmentalize two opposite but related phenomena into two seperate experiences? I'll see if I can track it down

I posted this url in another thread and it got me intrigued and naturally I forgot about it and now having posting it once again I am reintrigued (?)

It is from a skeptical based site and when I read it I zeroed in on these two passages:

"... The hypnagogic state is also responsible for many reports of alien abduction..."

and a little furthur on

"... The hypnopompic state is much
like the hypnagogic state in that visual, olfactory, and auditory hallucinations arepossible. One of these, in fact, has been frightening people for centuries. It is called
"Old Hag". Old Hag is nearly as common as dreaming you are in a public place naked. It is
categorized as a hallucination in the
hypnopompic state of a human form that may sit on your chest and seem to be crushing the breath out of you..."

I don't know how authoritative this site is, perhaps the author was trying to be all inclusive and tackle the two major aspects associated with both phenomena and just generalizing, perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but if the statements are true, I find it interesting that it attributed the two most associated hallucinations of sleep paralysis to the two different stages of the affliction

Was he generalizing? Does anybody know of data to back up this statements? Why would our minds/psyche take pains to differentiate the two phenomena and assign them to different points in our sleeping cycle ? Has anybody who
may be reading this ever suffered BOTH and remembered any associated hallucinations and can verify this sentiment?

From my own experiences I don't think I could, I've had many hypnopompic attacks but never saw anything, although I felt a presence, which was my first symptom and that to me seemed funny because the sensation is a natural reaction to a perceived threat...the paralysis and breathing difficulty... and thus I would think one would experience the paralysis and breathing problems firstly then the sensation of a presence.

As far as hypnogagia which I don't think I've experienced as much, I mostly remember the knee jerk which was mostly preceded in my dreamstate by dreaming of falling but usually tripping or stumbling on some steps or a stairway. I had early on, a few abduction feelings associated with this, immediately upon waking but that hasn't happened in some time
