Strieber comparison

A very curious thing has happened in my mind lately while listening to your last couple of podcasts. I've mentioned before that I believed Streiber except for the occasions where he goes overboard and acts like he is some kind of a prophet. I've had my doubts about the variety of experiences he has had, but between Jeff Ritzman, David and Brad Steiger, ya'll are seeming to corroborate alot of the strangeness he encounters. I don't know if you realize it but your dimensional and inner earth theories are concepts he considers too as being likely. It's just interesting to me, it's too bad he would probably be too concerned with being mocked to come on your show, because a conversation between jeff, david and whitley would be incredibly interesting.

I'm always looking for the truth just as you guys are, I approach everything fairly skeptically. It's hard to believe Streiber because of his history as a horror writer, but it is interesting to hear virtually identical stories on a program that is as skeptically inclined as yalls. Tell Me, if you don't mind, what do you think about this comparison? I've heard Jeff mention Streiber in a somewhat positive light, but what about Gene and David?

Btw, David, much kudos for giving up some of the strangeness in your closet. I actually think it makes your rants more compelling and it seems like a heck of a risk to me. Anybody here who publicly entertains the notion that ufo's and particularly abductions etc. could be real knows how quickly attitudes change around you once you profess more than a mere curiosity about the subject.

I've noticed similarities between Jeff and Whitley's reported events. An example is the seeming quantum leaps they've encountered in their car. Whitley was with a boy at the time, and I've been curious about what the kid (now an adult probably) has to say. No luck yet.

Strieber and Jeff would make an interesting show.

Just wanted to make a really brief reply, David and I are at the X Conference and just got back up to the room after Rich Dolan's really great presentation. He's a really nice guy and a fantastic speaker who cuts through the otherwise high noise of the subject.

I'd definitely be into a Paracast with Whitley. We met many years ago in Gulf Breeze, and he and I used to exchange emails quite a bit back when I was hosting at Sightings and Parascope.

I related to some of his experiences, however he's gotten rather away from alot of that in years past, and has dare I say, gotten "fringe-ish". I dont know that I put alot of stock in some of what he's had to say lately, but I think his core experiences (ala Communion) were very interesting (as well as his perception of them).

I often drop by Strieber's site to check out his journal and news updates. My favorite article blurb on his home page has to be "Whitley tells us what to think about the drones." Rather revealing. Strieber loves nothing better than telling people what to think about everything under the sun, especially subjects far beyond his grasp. I guess the man has become my personal Cato.; everything he says annoys me beyond endurance.
I stopped listening to his podcast some time ago, soon after he turned Unknown Country over to that refugee from a Lewis Carroll fantasy, William Henry. But this week, after reading Strieber's description of the show as a head to head blowout, I downloaded the program and was shocked by the hateful, venomous, spiteful, lunatic personal attack he launched against a guest who had the unmitigated gall to disagree with this era's Madam Blavatsky. The fact that the man being interviewed is as big a new age poseur as Strieber didn't earn him any mercy, which only goes to prove that there is no honor among self deluded, fear mongering nut cases.
( And I'm not being rude here, believe me. If I wrote what I really think of Strieber, the moderator would have to delete the post, then wash his monitor screen with boric acid. )

I'd really like to hear him on the Paracast. Whatever his current position is, I think he's had prolonged contact with the intelligence behind the phenomenon, much like Jeff R. I'd definitely consider Jeff more skeptical of what's been fed to him, but Whitley does seem to have a thread of open-mindedness that has remained throughout. I've had a correspondence with him online, and that's the impression I got.

An interesting piece of trivia about Whitley, he's been involved in a group associated with GI Gurdjieff for over a decade. That's actually what prompted me to write to him, because I was also involved in such a group many years ago and wanted to confirm whether he had been involved or not.

I think a round-table type of discussion would be great.

Without going into detail, Strieber is definitely on our list of potential guests.

Actually, I think Whitley's been all over the place because his experiences are so darned odd. Seems to me he has formed opinions of a sort, but eventually he tosses them out when some other explanation fits a bit better. I don't remember his being adamant in his judgments, at least for very long.

But maybe I'm just recalling his extreme emotional reactions. I can't say how I'd react to the situations he's found himself in, but his emotions do seem extreme to me. It's as though there's panic just under his surface.

Then I hear him tell about traveling to other worlds, enjoying what he finds, and I think he's just nuts. That's the thing about him, I can't pin him down when it comes to the wonderfully weird stuff. He's all over the place all the time, but when he writes, I get that. Only then can he focus, imo. Then I'm hooked.

Gotta agree about William Henry though. I think he's a better interviewer than Whit, but he always, always, always has to promote his theories too. At least he can handle a guest's disagreement.

Whitley makes a good interview, not a good interviewer.

Streiber is a nutjob. Up til the time he wrote communion, he was a mediocre author.

DFWMike,

Thanks for the kind and supportive words, it means a lot to me. I felt uncomfortable revealing some of the details that came out during the Brad Steiger segment, and am thankful that I haven't been attacked outright (though if you look at the latest comment someone posted on the Podcast Alley site, well, I have my enemies out there...)

I'll be meeting Whitley Strieber late next week at an event being hosted by The Clueless One in NYC, hopefully I can convince him to come on the show, I think a discussion with Jeff, Gene & myself would be really interesting.

I very much enjoyed The Wolfen. It was well paced and based upon a relatively novel concept: that humanity is unaware it shares this world with another intelligent species that preys upon humans. I find it odd that Strieber has never given much serious consideration to that hypothesis when attempting to define the motives of his "visitors." I believe it's more than a reasonable fit.

I meant to mention this, that story about the girl sounded really familiar and I was wondering if you actually had told it before and maybe forgot. Is it possible you told it when you told that story about your mother's condo on the Dead Science podcast (was that the one?).

Ive yet to read any of Whitley Streiber's books, my only contact with any of his ideas/experiences is via his alternative news, science, culture, religion, ufos, alien encounters | unknowncountry | the edge of the world website and podcast and the "Communion" movie. I do believe that he has an interesting viewpoint to offer and would make an entertaining guest for sure!

So would my granny, Ruth. She believes dill pickles will kill you and that any disease or injury, no matter how severe, can be cured with massive doses of chicken broth and horehound.
You say cousin Marvin was decapitated in a car wreck? No problem. Just keep pouring chicken broth and horehound down his neck hole and he'll sprout a new head before you know it.
I think Strieber and sweet old granny Ruth are on about the same intellectual wavelength. Sure, they can both be entertaining for a little while, but their eccentric shtick can get tiresome pretty fast.*
If Strieber does appear on the Paracast, I hope gentle natured Gene will sic David on him like a terrier after a rat: challenging every one of his ridiculous new age delusions and refuting them with facts.

*There was nothing better than a trip to Lewis's candy store with granny Ruth. As long as you would eat a sack of horehound, she would buy me anything else I wanted...in massive quantities. We're talking two pounds of home made fudge here, and huge bags of those wonderful coconut three layer parfaits slathered with a thick layer of super rich chocolate. It's been years since I've seen any of those delicious things for sale. Guess they've gone the way of the dodo.

Now youre talking! yum lol

In my mind, Its always good to get different opinions on paranormal phenomena, perhaps reality is somewhere between different individual viewpoints. There are a lot of strange things going on, and have been for a long time. Not just with the UFO phenomena, but with other unexplained events and experiences.

Sure, Whitley Streiber's opinions may not be to everyones tastes, but what he is putting forward are his beliefs and interpretations based upon his own experiences. If it works for him, then so be it. :)

Whitley is an honest man in my opinion & won't dance his way around some tender questioning, so bring it on.

Goody.

I just hate to see Strieber take a decent account of events (Communion) and, to me, try to use it to turn this phenomina into a religion. He lost me right there.

I'd really like to hear him on the show. He's very open minded and I think he'd do well with the style of critical debate on The Paracast. On Dreamland he seems to get carried away at times with the paranormal and though I do wish he was more critical of some of his regulars (Howe, Marrs, and Henry), I think he is just doing his best to make sense of his experiences.

Streiber is polluting the well of information concerning the whole UFO Alien Abduction thing.

He needs to be ignored.
