Suggestion: Listeners Questions Via Voice Mail

I was saying boo-urns
I was thinking of an idea that would be pretty cool IMO. Would it be possible to set up a way to allow listeners to leave a voice mail to ask questions on the show and to play them on the show? It would be an extended version of the question bank, but add an interactive element to the show with the forum.

It would not be expensive either as a basic prepaid cellular phone could have have more than enough money on it to be able to listen to voice mail for $100 or less per year. Getting a local AZ number would not be an issue either as the majority of people have cell phones anyways and all of those plans have long distance included with them. Those calling from outside the states know the cost is on them. :)

Anyways, food for thought. What do you guys think?

That's a great idea.
What about this: you can record your question as an MP3 and email it to Gene and Chris. That would involve no extra cost at all.

I agree Cee-zee Excellent idea! It'll make the show more interactive (sounding) but give folks a chance to participate personally.
We've been talking about it in the Greg Bishop thread...I'll post a new thread about it...

I have been thinking of putting forward the idea of using TS3 (Team Speak) as a good way for forum members to chat .. what do you think?
I use it for online gaming (EVE) and it is a great way to chat and hang out online.

That would be great to do. Got my vote!

Oh the other system like this is called "Mumble" it is a bit better in many ways as the user can create their own rooms to chat on top of the main ones for the forum.

Chris you change your avatar more often than....Maybe I shouldn't have said that.Anyway....Crimson King album cover? Really?
Yeah, I change it every six months or so--when I feel like it...got a problem w/ that? :) King Crimson keyboardist/sax player Ian McDonald was an important early influence for me, just another aspiring rock synthesizer player in the late '70s. He was my major influence for my orchestral sensibilities. I have always loved his (and Mike Pinder's) mellotron work and one-man orchestration...FWIW: I played w/ Ian's brother-in-law for a couple of years in NYC...

The first King Crimson album cover for "In The Court of the Crimson King" is one of my all-time favs....The art from the album cover (that I've selected for my latest avatar) and the song lyric for that song is as relevant today as it was 43 years ago....As a kid, I loved the sixties and this 1969 release was (at the time) and still is (IMO) a seminal album... It's got Y2012K gravitas!
IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING
The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun.
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun.
The purple piper plays his tune,
The choir softly sing;
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue,
For the court of the crimson king.

The keeper of the city keys
Puts shutters on the dreams.
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With insufficient schemes.
The black queen chants the funeral march,
The cracked brass bells will ring;
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the crimson king.

The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower.
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour.
The pattern juggler lifts his hand;
The orchestra begin;
As slowly turns the grinding wheel
In the court of the crimson king.

On soft grey mornings widows cry,
The wise men share a joke.
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gently pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king.

Nothing at ALL wrong with Crimson King....have always loved them.
It's the album cover. It literally gave me nightmares back in the 70's when my older sister bought it.
Cool you are an aficianado of them.
I feel the same way about The Alan Parsons Project. The first time I heard the "I, Robot" album I'm pretty sure I had an out of body experience, if not a true religious experience.

i still have that album.

My opinion on this is if they can do it without much effort or cost then fine. Personally, hearing my voice on the air isn't as important to me as having my questions asked, so I don't really mind if they keep doing it as they've done it in the past. Just my two cents.

That is why the mumble/TS3 idea is cool as we can sit and chat with other Paracast forum members and have voice debates.. don't mean this for on air but just general chat.
If it takes a small subscription fee then all well and good as these things can and do cost.

It is an excellent idea, though trying to have a debate over TS is something I've done in the past and it's difficult to get ideas across when everyone is talking over everyone else. Maybe they've fixed that problem in the new versions or maybe there's a way to moderate that I'm not aware of. I haven't used TS or Vent since my days of Star Wars Galaxies so I'm not up on the latest developments. That being said I'd definitely be interested if they were to implement something like that.

It is a hell of a lot better than it was in the early days but there still can be problems with to many talking at once.
There are com's rules as you would know from the old days and we are very strict on them in EVE .... however mumble is better in that respect than TS3 is so maybe mumble would be the better choice.
