Tentative Inspection Program Would Allow Russia to Visit U.S. Nuclear Sites

Free episodes:

I don't see it as a problem. And by the way - there are no nuclear secrets. That cat climbed out of the bag long ago.

I thought the cold war was over. I played my part; flipping of TU-95 Russian Bears and KH27's in the Pacific during the late 80's.

Or are they still conducting air-raid drills in schools these days?

On the serious side, what harm can come of this?

Well, I wouldn't call Russians exactly our allies as we would Britain or Germany. Just look at their actions lately and who they align themselves with. Putin is a very devious, cunning character who wants to take Russia back to it's soviet glory days. I wouldn't trust this guy if my life depended on it.

I think it's a very dangerous precedent and I don't understand how this helps our national security. Is Hillary even legally allowed to do something like this without consulting with congress or Pentagon? That's what I'd like to know.

Are you under the impression that the US Nuclear community is not able to hide what it considers to be classified? If so, that is a woeful and inaccurate thought. They will only expose that which they deem as insignificant in terms of defense or intelligence matters.

But yes, no matter what Hillary says/does, I am well aware of her disdain for the DoD.

They will only expose that which they deem as insignificant in terms of defense or intelligence matters.

I hope that that's the case but with the stupidity and incompetency that's been prevelant in this administration I'm praying that it's not going to turn into something worse. I mean common, at least we could have gotten something back from the Russians, like new tougher sanctions on Iran.

Does that mean that we should also allow the inspections to the Chinese, North Koreans, Ahmanidenutjob, Hugo Chavez and all that ilk?

I'm sorry i don't understand how you can hold others accountable to inspections if you are not prepared to do the same. How do you think that would be interpreted by other country's? A little hypocritcal i think. It is something you have to do to build trust with other nations.

Why not? What's with the paranoia?

I mean, the USA and the UN run around saying "let us in", yet when the tables are turned it rapidly becomes a matter of national security?

Remember, the Russians, the Chinese, the Iranians, and the Venezuelans don't have a history of nuking other countries.

This is ignorant paranoia at it finest right here. If you want to be able to go into other countries and look at what they have behind closed doors, expect for them to want to do the same to you.

Also, think of the diplomatic ramifications that would be incurred if you didn't let them in. Every other nation out there that already looks at America through wary eyes would do so even more, and for good reason. However, if you did let them through to do inspections, it might just clean up the reputation that your country has attained over the past years. Which IMHO, needs all the help it can get.

No, not yet, who's to say it's not going to happen?

Yes, we did nuke Japan. It was a long and difficult war and we were facing very fierce warriors. It's a matter of debate how long the war would have lasted and how many more US soldiers would have died had we not nuked them. Do I condone using nukes? No, absolutely not. War is a terrible thing, but when you're invlolved in combat you should use every means possible to win and spare the lives of your fighting men. I wish we had used these rules of engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan where our military is basically fighting with their hands tight.

This is ignorant paranoia at it finest right here. If you want to be able to go into other countries and look at what they have behind closed doors, expect for them to want to do the same to you.
Why should these rules apply to despotic nations who threaten to eliminate or dominate other nations or who are abusive to their own citizens?

Look, I wish we all lived in an ideal world where all the countries in the world searched for peace, prosperity and mutual understanding. But it's just not the reality. We have some pretty evil despotic regimes that look for world domination or raising havoc through some lunatic ideology. Why should we apply the same standards to those regimes as we would to our allies. Unites States happens to have the most powerful military in the world and a lot of the friendly nations look to us for protection. You may or may not like it, but that's the case. I just hate to see our security be compromised in such a way. I wish we could extend our hand of friendship and work it all out. But it just doesn't work that way. If I am paranoid, so be it.:)

John.

Because not all countries are equal. Most seek peace, democracy and prosperity, others - world domination and destruction. I have no problem to allow inspections by pro-western peaceful countries.

Moral relativity is a bitch.

boulders and sticks and methsin, I think you guys are being slightly ignorant and naive about the relationship between the U.S. and Russia with nuclear weapons arsenals and the UN / IAEA inspection process. We already have had agreements and inspections and destruction of nuclear stockpiles since the Cold War which each country has respectively supervised.

Obama is allowing more intrusive inspections of our facilities to Russia, which does not accomplish anything or prove anything. It will not give Iran an epiphany to dismantle their nuclear program. The problem people have is that Russia is dishonest and doesn't seem to reciprocate the goodwill of Obama, by being against sanctions on Iran first while Iran maintains their nuclear secrecy and stonewalling amongst other things. Russia is probably looking for more information on our facilities and they are not necessarily our 'friend' but seem to be going back into Cold War mode.

Lead by example. Don't Just let your mates in to pat you on the back and say way to go USA. That is going to acomplish nothing. World domination, I could not of put it more clearly myself.
John.
