I remember when David Lynch directed Dune and how it bombed at the box office. People didn't like it because it wasn't formulaic enough. Incidentally Dune is on of my all time favorite films.

Dune bombed on two levels:

1- Too long and too weird for the general public
2- Too simple and too many changes for fans of the novels.

Personally I like it for it's quirkiness and dark, visionary design. Also some great one-liners...

I saw Signs in the theatre on opening day and then I thought it was really good , well at the time I was only fourteen so I wouldn't have known a good movie if it bit me in ass. I watched it again recently and realized that it is indeed a piece of shit. The plot is uninteresting and uncreative and the only reedeeming factor was Mel Gibson's performance other than that it sucked. And about The Happening the ending was even more absurd than it was in this film. M Night should just forget hollywood all together and quit wasting peoples time on his tripe.
