The Mars Anomaly Thread

Free episodes:

And now for more anomalies (or prosaic mundanities)....

This next one was found by MikeSingh. I find it interesting, perhaps some of you may too:

Zoomed and features highlighted:

-Note: It is in the image Mr Singh said it would be in, but that image is huge and the IAS viewer is required to view it.

And another one from Mike Singh.

If this next one wasn't on Mars, I'd be thinking that was military operating down there in poorly placed bunkers/shelters. :

Now here is one that some of you may be aware of.

This next image contains what many believe looks like and bears resemblance to, Rottelli pasta. Needless to say, the idea that this thing and those like it may be fossils has also raised as a possibility:

Even Miles O'Brian gave the story some news coverage. This is a good little watch:

Edit:

Here is another rock which may also have spiral features, it was taken from sol 2177:

Check out these potential worm/worm burrow fossils.

This first one is from sol 2174:

Terrestrial worm fossil:

Here is that worm-like thing In 3D:

Another? this one I wouldn't bet any money on, but when compared to terrestrial worm fossil material, there is some similarity:

Terrestrial sample for comparison:

Without actually going there, we can't jump to the conclusion that anything in those pictures has to be anything but natural. Most of it can be attributed to the human mind making something out of nothing - just like EVPs and that silly "face" on Mars. I'll gladly believe when there' something with more substance that's presented. For now, my skeptical cap is tightly fitted on my head.

Way to state the Obvious there partner.

Good thing we have you here to remind us of that. 8)

No problem. I try my best to keep things grounded.
I was just getting worried that people were jumping to the conclusion that these "anomalies" were something other than natural. It's fun to imagine that they are, but I prefer to stick to reality.

Hi! Can I join the party ?

I brought my two favourites Mars anomalies

#1 the proof that Type III civilisations exist, they are HUGE and they play space golf (possibly also the proof that they are bad at it : this one missed the next black hole by at least 2000 parsecs ... Last time he played, the dinosaurs went extinct)

mars.golfball.jpeg
(stereo)

#2 A really nicely symmetric formation that proves that the Egyptians had telescopes and that they were architectural plagiarists...

(cut by NAZA to hide the Sphinx on the left)

Haaa... we're really getting somewhere now...

Haaargh ! My cover blown up by an amateur ! I now have to change my name to Hoaxland !

NAZA ! You'll never get me! HAHAHAHAH !!!!!!

Folks,

Here are a couple more which have more fossil potential than your standard issue rock:

(Aug 17, 2005, Erebus)

And here is one from the crew over at thelivingmoon - from Sol386:

Dick, You old cad you!

Hey,

I heard you found Santa's Lair on Mars. I could've sworn I heard you on Art bell blowing the secret wide open! Stunning rectilinearity! Repeating geometric features! Pure Bearded-Persuasion Dick! Good on Ya Mate!

Now how am I supposed to top that? :D

Another YouTube video, this time on the colors of Mars. Either people outside of NASA got it markedly wrong, or something smells a little funny with NASA's official public releases:

Well Tom, if Mars is not a red planet, and i have no reason to doubt it isn't. Why" would NASA for the last fifty years lie to the American people and to the World? The other video of Mars, the terrain on that video, is completely different. I see or observe mountains (sand) rivers and seas!!! I hold of on Judgment, but if this is true? This would be a staggering cover up of enormous proportions. Other nations with a Space program would have to have some knowledge to this cover up" If this secret is being kept from us what other secrets are we unaware of?

"Angel the video might be genuine. I did a quick search around the NASA sites. This is a picture from Hubble in 2009 and this is the picture of Mars, that Hubble took. This images are online. So Look yourself?

I'm more annoyed that it's trying to promote garbage like implying there are rivers and oceans on Mars.
Also, Hubble doesn't really work like most people think it does - it doesn't actually "shoot" in colour like a regular film or digital camera works.

That makes no sense Angel. I had an impression Mars was completely Red a dark Red. So why is "Hubble" picking up four different shades of colour. White in some Photos i saw, and blue and orange, and in some of the other Photos too, a light Grey. Explain, please why this would happen?

While I don't uncritically buy into the argument that life previously existed on Mars, you do need to acknowledge that some of the photos present legitimate questions (e.g., apparent vegetation that cast shadows on the surface). Van Flandren was a PhD in Astronomy, former head of the Naval Observatory and was genuinely baffled at some of NASA's and JPL's behavior. There is plenty of historical precedence where the consensus in science was downright wrong, oftentimes due to group think.
