WTF is this?

"Someone at NASA released a photo that they shouldn’t have, a picture of a piece of timber the size of a railroad tie, a photo that could get someone killed. There is no mistaking that the object in the print below is a piece of wood. NASA claims that Mars is a desert planet with no life at all."

This photo has been talked about in other threads. Geez, here we go again with the conspiracy stuff. Sure it looks like it could be a log, .... OR a rock. Perhaps sedimentary. There are other things in the picture if it gets enlarged, haven't looked at it for awhile. It is also very close to the nearby crater. And what comes out of craters?? Debris, rocks, etc.

This is just not true, there are more plausible explanations considering the crater.

This photo is news to me anyway.
Although I agree about overly dramatic intro in this dude’s article… it's not important, real source (of the photo) is NASA. Would be nice to see higher resolution,this sure looks more like a piece of wood than a rock.
 
Lumber without trees/forest. Interesting. Yes, indeed, that is no doubt wood. The wood you find in Beavis and Butthead's pants.

Mars. May All Reason Suspend is what that planet stands for.

I never thought I'd see triple ds and shake my head as if I wish to not encounter them, until this thread.

I recall seeing a bigger one, but haven't searched for it extensively. The one thing we see in these "Mars anomaly" pictures is lack of context. We see a closeup of one thing, but often times the accompanying background is ommitted. Like the giant crater in this picture, although you can see it in the small image at the top of your post. But the main focus is on the "log". In other cases it is the "city", the "forest", the "bigfoot", the "pyramid" and so on.

Okay, this is a better link photo.
It does indeed look like a piece of cut wood, however I have seen similar, if not identical, sedimentary rock formations at the Grayson Highlands Park in Virginia. I hope it turns out to be a Martian log cabin remnant, or maybe it's the long lost bit of gopher wood from Noahs ark (boy, now that was a HELL of a flood!)
And what's that shiney thing in the distance? A piece of the lander maybe? A Martian Coors Light Bullet? I could grok that (nod to Heinlein).

But no one mentions what looks to be tire tracks going away from the lander (on the lower right),...and not only that...there's footprints close to the lander.

Maybe the timber fell off the back of a Martian truck, and in true redneck fashion tossed his/hers/it's empty beer can out the window a short distance away???

But seriously, what are those marks on the ground, AND what's that shiney thing?

Just for comparitive reasons, look at this photo.

If you can imagine a long "loglike" rock being thrown from the crater, or just laying there it begins to get easier in realizing that it is a rock. Of course we have all these hucksters wanting to spin any odd image into some conspiracy.

Anyway, thought it was worth a peek. This is just one of thousands of photos on Mars. I haven't looked at many yet, but intend to start looking at some more of them.
 
IT might be a stupid question, but why cant Nasa not use Colored Video while it is on Mars, it does not seem reasonable to me.
