I've read some things, but forget the details, that made me think he's bit the believer bullet though, and so haven't been keeping up with him in more recent times. He isn't a known fabricator of evidence so far as I know of. He doesn't deserve the top 5 con award, or even 10.

You raise an excellent point, and I apologize for not taking that into consideration.

I don't see we're necessarily screwed. To state the obvious, the way we "out" these folks is to have a credible base of respected authorities in the field to work in concert to expose these kind of charlatans. Though dealing with big egos is a factor in any field, as far as the press is concerned there may be some hope for a balanced hearing to happen eventually. This article we just saw on the CIA document release in the Sydney Daily Herald was an example of someone who "got it" (the silliest thing was the title, which kind of fit anyway). And The Clueless One had extremely good press for his first Culture of Contact event, despite some lunacy the community did to itself that he related to me directly.

Maybe the way we help make this happen is for the Young Turks in the field now (who will eventually become the respected authorities) to create some kind of "accord" between themselves (call it the Greata Accord -- what the hell) to mediate differences between themselves privately, and to abide by some kind of standard of objectivity.

I found Above Top Secret, his book and not related to the internet site, quite interesting though I haven't followed up with any of his writing since that time. After hearing him on a recent Coast interview, I'm not so sure I want to take the time because, though he didn't necessarily support any researcher on the lists in this thread, he sounded rather supportive of a lot of theories I haven't been able to give much credence to so far. Some I have, but he seemed all over the place.

I lump him in with the folks who brought all that New Age, Save The Planet bullshit into UFO mythos. The whole end of the world, Mayan calendar, Aliens are here to save us, and of course, Climate Change nonsense that he purports to be truth, is utter bullshit. His book Communion was fine. It was everything that came after that, that put him into the category of huckster.

I'm not upset at all that people read fiction. What bothers me is the legitimacy this clod gets when he talks about extra-terrestrials. I don't believe a word he writes, or speaks. You might be one of his Kool-aid drinkers, and that's fine. I just don't believe that his fiction, should be treated as fact.

Many people have been hurt by their efforts, and many others that some have mentioned have listed in this thread have been deluded and driven off the track by the above. Investigators that started out with good intentions have been conned and mislead horribly by the above, and others.

Self-deluded idiots like Swiss Cheese, Rael, the Prophet Yahweh and so on have not done damage to anyone that didn't allow them to. If you pay money for a book, or a trip to Switzerland, or anything else, Caveat emptor.
