Tornados Blow

Free episodes:

Ah, thought you actually saw the funnel coming at you.

Nosir, was listening to *reports* of the funnel coming towards me, complete with countdown at the 15, 10 and 5 min marks (and there are two landmarks that were mentioned, saying it was headed right between them, and I *am* right between them... and they aint but *maybe* 1/4 mile apart!), then I saw the big ol thang that was *making* it come over the treeline in the back, which was *rotating*, but not funneling downward. Then, after passing *directly* over the house, saw it funnel down as it crossed over the mountain line into the valley where the folks were that photo'd it. I *did* see spinning and churning coming towards me, but not funneling.

I will add too, that it had indeed been a touchdown funnel right before reaching me, and had been for quite some while back into Alabama... we were hearing reports from county police that were witnessing it as well... the two local chat forums I mentioned both have scanner threads where certain folks keep us all updated throughout the day and most of the night as to what all is goin on on the scanners! We are like modern day Dukes Of Hazzard up in here...

Incidentally, after a long calm day despite three weather websites saying we should have a long day of serious thunderstorms, a serious thunderstorm just struck up after posting the above... it is now thundering and lightening, and the bottom has completely fell out. Over the next few days we are under a flood watch as well.

Yeh, we saw spinning and churning leaves, tops of trees and rain drops etc.

No tornado stories but I spent sixteen years in SoFlo with about a dozen hurricanes up my butt. Does that count ? My first was Andrew and my last was Wilma, who showed me her eye.;)

Even though I don't live on the coast, Hurricane Hugo wrecked my city back in 88 or 89. I liked being out of school for days because of it though.

We are a pretty good piece away from the coast here, but had a hurricane come through, around 94/95 ish I believe it was. I worked for the city at the time, parks / cemeteries crew, and had to spend DAYS cleaning it up... cuttin up trees and haulin em off, that kind of thing. I was called into work at around 2 am, and had no car, so had to ride my bike into work while the shit was still going. Until then I did not even realize something like that was possible, but the damn thing came up on land and went right through here, in NW GA. Also, the power was out all over for a coupla days, and there were no stores to buy food... we had no way to pick up some lunch! Some kind citizens brought us up all kinds of things to eat at the city barn.

Around that same era we also had the biggest snow I've ever heard of around here (I believe it was april when it snowed... definitely a VERY late month for ANY snow, much less a *huge* one)... we had snow drifts up to 5 feet, and over 1 foot in general. Up until then we always got a few snows per year, and always got a couple of snow days from school, but since then there have been NO snow days... my son is now 7 years old and has never once had a snow covered ground to play in.

Yeah, I'd say that counts, cuz I grew up in S. Fla too and had my fair share of 'em too!

I grew up the Texas coast...been through a few hurricanes. Ike was a bitch. My parents lived off of a generator for two weeks with no running water. A place I used to stay in Galveston was completely gone. I'm thinking the body count there was a lot higher than we heard on the news. There were tons of homeless people in Galveston because of the state hospital. I suspect many of them were washed off the island.
