I'm a Tibetan Buddhist practitioner and in Buddhism it is commonly acknowledged that demonically-inclined non-physical beings do indeed lurk in wilderness areas and elsewhere and sometimes abduct and eat humans.
The beckoning feeling was very possibly some such entity trying to lure you onto her dinner plate.
I don't think I've had missing time out there, but suspect it may have happened indoors between the four dumbing walls of suburbia, where I think it probably occurs much more commonly and is easer to disguise.

You sound like a really interesting person. I'm not a "practitioner" of anything. Although I did do a little candle magick yesterday in an appeal for some material assistance in getting me through my present crisis. Those who know me here might be surprised to hear that, because I'm essentially a skeptic and a critical thinker. Yet now and then I'll meditate or pull out a deck of tarot cards. I seem to get some sort of benefit from going through the actions and allowing the non-rational part of myself some space to breathe once in a while. If that makes any sense. I dunno. I'd like to hear more about your experiences. You can always discuss them in a private conversation if you're not comfortable sharing them openly.

While interesting and seductive, the rational, thinking mind is nothing more than an evil trickster bitch whipping you down into perpetual submission with a hard, bamboo cane.

We all need to remember that repeatedly and constantly step out of the tyranny of thought.

LOL. Well I don't think I'd go quite that far. I'm one of those truth seeking types who finds the rational thinking mind a valuable ally in that pursuit. But at the same time, it feels good to give it a rest now and then and treat myself to some nonsense. It's like Sean Connery's character in Finding Forrester says: "I read the Times for dinner, but this, ( he says with a smile referring to the National Enquirer ) This is my dessert."

Well it's 5:15am here in Calgary, so I'm going to sign off and try to get a few hours of sleep. I hope you decide to share some of your experiences. I'd like to know how they started, how they manifest themselves, and what you think is behind them. I'll check back sometime later in the day :).

Is there a 'Weirdness in the Woods' thread for personal experiences? I'm very interested in what's been said here but don't want to get off topic. Of special interest is that sense of 'other' that comes with being alone in wilderness. I'll search for the proper thread to give this a go. Good stuff.
