UFO Magazine now officially dead ...

Free episodes:

Here's what a domain name broker sent me for ufomagazine.com: "Based on the domain stats and recent comparable sales, this domain will likely be priced between $20,000 - $40,000."

With many magazines now dying by the wayside. Just be glad UFO Magazine lasted as long as it did. Even magazines such as "Time", Newsweek", which I had confidence would outlive me are now uncertain.

Just wonder why the real owner wishes to be unidentified. That is on contradiction with the magazine's intended purpose of revealing the unvarnished truth.

I really did enjoy the UK version of UFO Magazine. You could tell that Birdsall took keen interest in the subject and was trying to get to the bottom of the mystery. I did keep some of those issues from a dozen years ago and rarely keep any mags for long.

Graham's magazine also had very good distribution. I could even get it here in the library in Zagreb in Croatia every month. I still have few issues. I also have their digitazed VHS set of 7 tapes that they released titled: "UFOs - Hard Evidence".

From the comments at UFO Magazine:
"Because, as a result of our license revocation, we will be precluded from publishing any new issues of UFO Magazine, subscribers will have four options: go to UFO Magazine at 5455 Centinela Avenue, LA, CA, 90066, which owns the magazine and demand that they publish or refund; wait for the new owner of UFO Magazine and claim your subscriptions there; fill your remaining subscriptions with back issues, which we can supply for awhile, or convert to our new digital hyperfine and double the number of issues you will receive. Your choice. - Bill Birnes.

Does it sound like Bill plans to publish a digital magazine in something called digital hyperfine format under a different name than UFO magazine?

Except for one thing, which is that Peter W. Kuyper is listed as the "agent" for the filing, which is not the same thing as being the actual owner. But it's a useful lead, and, if he or Western United Financial corporation, are the actual owners, they surely have enough money to keep it going. But why is any of that supposed to be a secret?

The Paseadena location for Peter W. Kupyer's corporate headquarters is very nice - but any Pasadena location is very nice.

The Centinella address for the magazine is a nice building but in a very un-busy location (close to location of the building where Howard Hughes assembled the Spruce Goose - historic factoid - Playa del Rey area, in coughing distance of the wetlands and ocean - neighbor to Venice Beach) and with absolutely no indication of what's inside. Nary a sign - not even on the doors or any window. Some construction going on on - looks like - on one section. Not a place one would enter randomly - since there is no advertising. You would have to know you have business inside to go in.

Here's a bit more.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation is at least part owner.

Looks good, Fubar. Based on Peter Kuyper's name, I found a 1998 newspaper story where he and a partner were trying to license and market images from the city of Roswell and the UFO Museum, but I don't know if the deal was reached.

Yes, Motion Picture Licensing Corporation appears to own the magazine, or is the front for the owner. As Fubar noted above, Donald Silecchio is listed as the President and the contact address is the same address of the MPLC. The Motion Picture Licensing Corporation (MPLC) is the leader in motion picture copyright compliance so it seems weird that they would own a magazine outright. They represent over 400 producers and distributors from major Hollywood studios, to independent and foreign producers, so it is conceivable that they are simply a middleman for the true owner. Steven Spielberg anyone? Ha!
