UFO Mystery Contiues over Missourri

Free episodes:

As a former news reporter, I'm stunned that both of the reporters treated the story as normal "hard news," and didn't snicker,,, not even once!!!

Seems like the history of local news and the ufo phenomenon is mostly straightforward and unbiased. Somewhere between the local and national levels, things have a way of becoming deconstructed.

I see. Your interest is purely your own not that of the Ufology Community.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by that. I am not a professional Ufologist (is there such a thing?) nor do I work for or represent any organization or group. I am what used to be called a UFO buff. I have spent way too much time in this forum over the past few years, but only as a audience member and contributor and the only views I've ever claimed to represent are my own.

It is my opinion that history shows that no real study of the UFO phenomena can actually occur within the pop culture UFO community. It occurs outside of it entirely and isn't shared on youTube or in paranormal themed forums, podcasts, or radio shows. At best what you get is the Campbell soup version, where only token junks of meat can be found and if then it is almost as though they were included as if by accident. For the most part the pop culture UFO and paranormal community has a carnival sideshow atmosphere and is similarly aimed at the rubes whose willingness to believe overrides their critical thinking skills and common sense. This is not to say that there are good people in the UFO community doing the best they can with what is available to them. I think they are few and far between and are fighting against some insurmountable odds. Don Ecker's My 20 Years in the UFO Fog explains it all pretty well I think.

Keep looking at those skies and when you see something, take a nice picture ...for your grandchildren. Screw the rest of us.

I've had similar reports here in Calgary and whenever I've checked them against a sky map, they have turned out to be astronomical. I scrounged around a bit to see if I could find any witness accounts where people saw it change position significantly or were able to see it closer-up. One lady says she saw it "drop", but we don't know the circumstances, so we don't know if that might have been an illusion caused by the optics she was using ( if any ). I ran across these two videos by "Zach & Amy". One is a video of a similar looking object ( possibly a police helicopter? ) and the other of Zach describing his sighting of a large UFO. Both around Blue Springs. The thing that bothers me, is that if these lights in the distance were actually craft and they were seen so often, why aren't there more videos of them from different angles and closer up? There should be many such videos like that. Anyway, so far, vague lights off in the distance do not a UFO make. I've contacted the local amateur astronomers society there ( NEKAAL), and am waiting for a response.

Fact or faked?

This field is such a minefield because of the sheer variety of mundane explanations for things seen in the sky. However, the sheer volume of reports made of craft that basically perform in a way we can not replicate must be taken seriously. There are a few cases that stand out so much I find it hard to doubt that some are artificial manufactured objects not made by human hands from this earth in the present or near past. I am open to inter-dimensional or crypto-terrestrial etc cos it really seems that even if some UFOs are ETs from another planet, there are still plenty other cases with high strangeness or just bizarre crafts.

Basically my view is of all the reports I've read and videos and pictures I've seen, well I think there is every chance that at least one of them is true. It only takes one. I can hardly believe some people actually doubt life on other distant planets. In this whole universe I resolutely refuse to even entertain the idea that the Earth is the sole repository of life and furthermore, intelligent life (us). It's happened once so it will have happened before and will again after.

I also think that even trying to use our contemporary understanding of physics to put obstacles in the way of any lifeform finding ways to 'cheat' the distance between stars. Even if it is only some generational ship that has taken centuries to reach another world I still think it is likely that has happened.
Carl Sagan used to say that as he believed there must be intelligent life elsewhere that has been around since long before modern humans, he questioned why we are not seeing any in our neighbourhood. Where are they all? Well, the evidence may be shaky but I think someone is building and flying some of these things. They are here and we will probably never get proof until the visitors decide so.

I do think there is a high chance that many UFO sightings are engineered by the UFO occupants/builders. I don't think they want to shove it down everyone's throat at the same time, but the way Star Trek had it's prime directive I can see other intelligent life maybe slowly showing themselves over decades or centuries until as a species we openly acknowledge something is going on.
I think they want us to come to the acceptance in our own sweet time. And I hate that cos I would love to know now and hey, guess what? I will still go to work in the morning etc and not go mental hoarding food and water and weapons waiting for armageddon. I don't think the average person is given enough credit by those who claim society would break down. Yes, society would get a major shake-up but I know biology, evolutionary processes and the will to survive and continue the species are the most powerful forces controlling our actions, whether we are consciously aware of them or not. Life will carry on and find away, of that I have no doubt.

I disagree with the conclusions of the Brookings report and think there was other motivation behind recommending the public be kept in the dark, should proof of life elsewhere be found. Somebody, somewhere officially is aware - I've almost no doubt of that. No proof either though and that must also be said. I suppose I have a 'belief' to a degree about this but it is built on a foundation of lots of 'maybe' evidence. It's the totality of that evidence that sways me.

After doing a bit more information gathering it seems that the object was most likely the star Arcturus, which scintillates almost identically to the object in the video and according to an interview with a MUFON representative who was watching it with someone who had a 12" telescope with a computerized readout; when trained on the object, the telescope tracking system reported the object's position as being that of Arcturus. However the MUFON representative didn't seem convinced and went on to speculate about the possibility of a "structured object" that had "faded out" in exactly the same location. This seems too coincidental to me. The scintillation effect varies as the position of the star moves and causes exactly that effect. I've seen it firsthand several times myself here in Calgary. The other reports of the object moving vertically did not contain sufficient information to determine whether or not it was the same object The first video below contains the original video, a longer interview with the MUFON rep, another news clip, and some callers to the show ( Rick Scouler ). The second video posted is of Arcturus scintillating. When the video segments of the objects are compared, they look very similar.

News Clips ( First video ) | Arcturus scintillating ( Second video )

Until we get more data, the position of USI on this case is that Arcturus is the most likely explanation for most of the reports and the other reports do not contain sufficient data to make a determination.
