UFOs in Paintings

Free episodes:

The art of Hilma and Dean Fagerstrom really remind me of the some of the abstract artworks that I have seen related to alchemy.

I think it isn't possible to say with total confidence what these "objects" portrayed in the paintings are. Almost all of them are representations of religious/biblical scenes and that should also make us think for a while. Is there something in the mechanisms of human perception that makes us absorve the UFO phenomena in a similar way, despite of the historical eras and cultural surroundings? Some art experts can explain away most of these anomalous elements in the paintings. But they aren't able to see them in their whole anthropological, religious and intellectual context.

I don't know what they are but they are intriguing. Can you provide some information or a link to the "art experts" that have explained away the elements in these paintings?? I've never heard other explanations for many of these.

TClaeys,

Symbolism is a widely discussed aspect of art, but it is a discussion that often gets missed by the general public. There are lots of books on the topic, but a general book like Biedermann's Dictionary of Symbolism may help as an introduction.
I was a fine arts major for two years and symbolism was almost always a part of the discussion art. And despite Facius_Cardan's claim, art historians do often rely on the historical, religious and social context when trying to find the meaning behind the symbolism. I did it myself as an art major.

I came across this page. I don't think I've seen all of these in one place before.

I can see where Jose Collado could say that they could be anything and the Australian cave painting could be spirits from the Dream Time but you have to admit that the fresco "The Crucifixion" sure does look like a couple of guys riding in a couple of space ships. I think that when something looks like something it just might be something. Thanks, jkoci, I have wanted to know the names of the paintings, the artists and dates of these for quite some time. There are also more like this but I couldn't tell you where to find them offhand. If I do find them, I'll let you know.

I'm less convinced with the cave paintings because some seem a little too much of a stretch. But the paintings, its clear that some of them are depicting something very odd, to say the least. It gives me chills, just thinking about it.

this clip shows what i concider to be one of the best paintings of ufo's....

clearly two ships chasing each other.....

If one were to hand in the words spoken in that video in an introductory Art History class, he would fail miserably. Talk about leading the viewer - stuff like "we see a man seated, his hand on a stick shift" is terrible, considering the artist had no perception of a stick shift. Also, the the people covering their faces - a convention of the time, to show the horror of the death of Christ, not the terror of the flying ships. The two men in the space ships - they are the two men that were crucified next to Christ, one saved by Christ, the other one not - which explains the difference in the "ships." At least that's my take on it, and much more plausible than the ridiculous narrative of the video.

ty on that food for thought. i never concidered that interpattion of the images. i just find the images compeling and intresting! thank you so much!

Clearly the sun and moon chasing each other... There are thousands of icons where they are represented above the crucifixion, at various degree of stylisation, from realistic to total personification :

I agree that there are some very intriguing things in paintings but not in this one. :D

my only problem with ur thoughts is it the two "craft" are the two images are the rwo theves. should they not be seen next to Jesus on the cross ? no in two weird objects. and as far as the narrator yes I agree it is way one sided!
and yes the ppl looking away in terror? ANGELS clarly in angush over Jesus's death. and what the narrator FAILS to point out is that ppl are standing at the cross in a prayfull posture not paying any attention to the "UFO's"
Any how this one has always intrested me.
