I have had similar discussions in the past with people who made a somewhat different claim; that being "Science is the same as religion, both rely on faith".
That's why Karl Popper's introduction of 'falsification' in to the scientific method was such an extraordinary step forward. God can not be falsified, since there's absolutely no way to prove he does not exist. Proving anything 'does not' exist is an exercise in futility. Since god can not be falsified, but the laws of physics can, we can draw a definitive line between religion and science. Go Karl Popper!!!
