What do people think of Jeff Rense?

Paranormal Tyro
I check his site almost every day for all the stories I would never see otherwise, and I appreciate his efforts, but does anyone get the feeling that half the time he interviews total whackjobs with unsubstantiated claims? It's as if his bullshit detector runs out of batteries every other day or something.

Is that too harsh? Am I being too naive?

That's all I have to say about Rense.

I enjoyed his show back when it was Sightings, however over the years it's turned into a huge pile of crap. From woo woo politics to David John Oats. Again, David John Oates..... He alone is enough of a reason to say wtf!?

Oh, he charges people to listen to his show last I checked. Not worth the money. Add onto that, he said he'd NEVER charge.

I started reading Jeff Rense's site a few years ago, for the UFO-related content. But as I started reading other articles on his site, I was disturbed and appalled by the anti-Semitic content, so I stopped visiting.

Rense has a very dodgy background and was I believe fired from a radio station at one point ... and not for his outrageous poodle haircut either.

I check his site for news every day, and you can find some interesting stuff on there. However, he does mix in some good information with lots of Greerish woo woo nonsense. I believe this is deliberate.

He is also mates with Alex Jones. No surprise there.

I also believe that he (well I think he's probably got staff for doing that) posts supposed "anti-semitic" stuff to make any criticism of Israel look like "anti-semitism". There is plenty of legitimate criticism of Israel and the Israel/Jewish lobby in the US. However there are also people who are trully anti-semitic ... so this is mixed in to make any legitimate criticism look racist.

Again I believe a while back that the CIA ranked rense.com as number one in their disinfo website league/rankings. But disinfo from which side?

So the whole rense.com business is a bit more complicated than it looks on the surface.

Also ... my god he's a boring interviewer. Have never listened to him much since his archives have been pay-for-ones ... since ... well at least 2001. He probably needs all the money for the gallons of hair-product he uses :D.

[And he also gives column space for Frosty Wooldridge ... now there is a nasty and dodgy s.o.b]

I'm with Stillborn and Siani.
I used to visit his site regularly about 10 years ago when there was lots of UFO content...but first I got fed up with all the credulous nonsense ("Reverse Speech" in particular), and then the increasing anti-Semitism and general right-wing nuttiness triggered my gag reflex.
I'd have to describe the general tone of rense.com content these days as "hateful and deranged".

If you listen to Jeff Rense you will find that he is anti Zionist, not anti Semitic. He is also anti organized religion of all sorts. He dislikes all politicians, both left and right. He spends a lot of time out on the lunatic fringe but also spends two evenings a month with Brad Steiger who is a really solid guy. Rense is the only person I'm aware of covering the Morgellons affliction, giving a voice to some hard core scientists and sufferers who are being ignored by the medical establishment. He is also a huge fan of the deceased singer Mario Lanza and has done a lot of work restoring his recordings. It's hard to put a label on Jeff Rense. I was quite amused when the corporation I work for blocked his web site inside the firewall.

I've heard a lot of Anti-semitic stuff about Rense, but I haven't read anything that I would consider such from him. I have seen stuff like the person above mentioned. But that sort of thing isn't what I'm interested in so the vast majority of time I'm reading about ufos or Bigfoot there etc. I may have missed the Jew bashing or whatever.

Rense is the kind of fucking idiot that the CIA, or FBI would use as a disinfo agent. Seriously.

What Rense believes is hard to say (he chooses his words carefully), but I think it's fair to draw conclusions from the clowns he features on his site and the content he chooses to promote.
I'm not a fan of Zionism myself (I was a supporter of it for much of my life before eventually deciding that at least as embodied in Israel it's incompatible with democracy and human equality), but it's patently obvious that on rense.com "Zionists" is used as a code-word for "Jews", with an implied wink and nudge just as when laying various conspiracies at the door of "international bankers" (er, in normal times that is) (not only is that vile in itself, but it provides ammunition for the extremists on the other side who delight in labelling anyone who criticises Israeli policy an anti-Semite). Every tired anti-Semitic conspiracy theory gets trotted out, Nazism is whitewashed (an uninformed observer could easily get the impression that Nazi Germany was the innocent victim in WWII...naturally the victim of scheming by you-know-who) and Holocaust deniers like Zundel and Irving are portrayed as martyrs for truth and justice.
If Rense isn't an anti-Semite he'd surely rein in his moron brigade. He hasn't, so as far as I'm concerned that speaks for itself.

Well thanks everybody. I am glad to see a pretty decent range of opinions - this is what I was hoping for. When I first started listening to JR a few years ago I thought I had found a really great source, but over the years I have - as David Biedny likes to say - learned how to discern what is signal and what is noise. I think there is a lot of noise coming from JR, but I do believe there is a signal somewhere in there worth listening to. He sure is a strange character, though, and freaking pompous too. Sometimes I want throw my headphones at him.

I quickly came to see that 'Zionist' was simply a code word for 'Jew' on the Rense site. There's enough racist crap in this world as it is, without someone making money from promoting bigotry, which is what Rense, in a roundabout way, is doing (ads, subscriptions, etc).

If his site's contributing authors openly said 'Jews' instead of 'Zionists', they would probably run afoul of the law - I know they would in the UK. By playing with semantics, and ostensibly attacking an ideology rather than an ethnic group, they manage to peddle their hate and get away with it.

That may be. I sometimes think of JR as being on the opposite end of the spectrum from what we consider mainstream news. He puts out a whole lot of spin in the other direction - so much so that it appears to be more reactive than sensible.

I strongly believe there is a balance to be held somewhere in the middle where maybe sometimes our attempts to come to absolute conclusions about certain things are useless. I mean, why be so definitive all the time? I think the human urge to deduce is sometimes better left unemployed with an array of possibilities in its place.

I have a relative who reads Rense and sometimes emails me Rense info....

I delete them without even opening the email.....

I've never read / listened on the grounds that anyone not smart enough to know that they look like a goober with a hairdo like that is not smart enough to tell me any worthwhile news.

I think a more cogent inference may simply be that one who makes the effort to maintain such an odd look lacks humility and may be more prone to narcissism. That being said, I sometimes find myself wondering if JR cares more about the message or the messenger.

Rense is beyond disgusting. Search his site for an article called "Why Are Jews Persecuted?" and you'll see what I mean.

I wish Rensewatch was still active. That was a good site.

And there is no way that can be his real hair. Talk about paranormal.

Did Rense write/make the article?

Did Rense write/make the article?

No. And Hitler didn't personally build the concentration camps. Why are we splitting hairs?

Rense did post that article on his site, and he posts similar anti-Semitic Holocaust-denying crap all the time. So I hold him responsible. It didn't appear there accidentally; he believes this stuff.

Listened to him long ago when his show was free. But actually stopped well before his paid format started. The guy became way to radical for my tastes.
