I would like to know if he had a plan for what he was gonna do after he released all those documents. He must have known he'd be found out, so why do and not have a plan? Is he incredibly stupid? If he'd had any sense, he'd have gone to Venezuala or some non-extradition treaty country and then disclose? Then he wouldn't be in the ridiculous position of living in Moscow airport! Bit like that Tom Hanks movie....

I have to completely agree. How reasonable is it to believe that someone who is allegedly this smart did not foresee the consequences? I have a really hard time buying into this whole scenario. First off, I haven't seen anything from him that we didn't already know anyway. Certainly nothing of Earth shaking proportions anyway. It's more like this was an orchestrated mission to generate chatter and test the reactions of various diplomats and the system in general. If he just wanted to get the message out, he could have simply handed over all the info he had to Anonymous & Wikileaks and keep working his agenda from the inside. It doesn't make sense to take this intrigue at face value.

Snowden is a what's called a Limited-Hangout Operation. He "released" nothing that we didn't already have. He is a CIA asset.

Good post Charlie. If Snowden was for real, then he would have had planned out a clean getaway and posted the information where it could be accessed by everyone for free. Clearly this is misinformation and disinformation and virtually none of it is worth taking seriously. I'd take all the noise it generates more seriously than whatever alleged info comes out of these so-called leaks.

Thanks. Snowden's instant celebrity last summer made me suspicious. Real intel leakers usually wind up shooting themselves twice in the back of the head, or dying in car wrecks. NPR and CNN fastidiously censor the slightest mention of them. Not the case with Snowden.

I follow Dr. Webster Tarpley's work . His historical understanding of these things is top-notch. Last June when the Snowden operation began, he published this...

How to Identify a CIA Limited Hangout Operation « TARPLEY.net

Tarpley's analysis is world-class, but you have to keep in mind that he is a straight-up old skool Roosevelt-style global communist. Suffering through his constant promotion of that agenda is tedious, but worth it (except on his podcast, not worth it there).

As Sibel Edmonds of http://boilingfrogspost.com explains, he and Greenwald are about to get their big payoff...

I can see the possibilty of Snowden being a CIA operative, and this may explain his reluctance (for lack of a better word) to release everything on his laptop. Maybe he's already fired both barrels.
If he's still holding back how can he claim to be a heroic whistleblower? Wasn't his intention to uphold the constitution and alert the people to a growing American government police state? So if his information is so bad for Americans, why hold back? Unless it's his life insurance......
I also think it would be foolish to think the Russians haven't copied everything Snowden has.

So if Snowden is a CIA stooge.......what's to be gained by this circus? What are they diverting attention away from?
What IS to be gained by this? I think that's the trillion dollar question.

Limited Hangouts can serve a number of purposes. Wikipedia explains some of them here:

Limited hangout - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Snowden drama, I think the purposes are...

"[the perpetrator] ...by withholding key facts, is protecting a deeper operation and those who could be exposed if the whole truth came out. In effect, if an array of offenses or misdeeds is suspected, this confession admits to a lesser offense while covering up the greater ones."

It's like tearfully confessing to your wife the crime of staying out all night drinking and snorting coke with the boys when in fact you spent the night screwing a bar fly in a hotel room.

"A limited hangout typically is a response to lower the pressure felt from inquisitive investigators pursuing clues that threaten to expose everything, and the disclosure is often combined with red herrings or propaganda elements that lead to false trails, distractions, or ideological disinformation; thus allowing covert or criminal elements to continue in their improper activities."

The Red Herrings serve a very important purpose. The "reveal" gives the Red Herrings super credibility they would not otherwise have.

 Whaaaat? You mean to say everybody knew that the NSA was spying on my Bundeskanzlerin's cellphone anyway and that this is NOT an earth-shakingly outrageous scandal of never before seen proportions which has to be debated in the Bundestag at least until public attention is diverted by something different?! I mean, it's all been thrown to the dogs, state secrets .... love whispering ... cooking recipes, for god's sake! It's blasphemy! :D

Greenwald and his editor did an "AMA" on reddit recently. They defense of not posting all the info publicly was to use "journalistic ethics" in order to avoid posting items that would potentially risk people's lives, filter out personal info of any sort, to have a constant drip of stories coming out to keep it in the headlines rather than doing it Assange style and dumping it all at once, etc.

I tend to agree with their reasons. The public attention span is short at best, at least trying this approach will let the next whistle blower know better what route to take.

Snowden allegedly agreed to the Russian government's condition of "not further damaging the US government" (or whatever the specifics were) in exchange for letting him stay there too. He's stuck there IMO, no way he's gonna be able to fly across the ocean without NSA knowing. IIRC, he claims that there are a handful of people who have a "doomsday cache" to release publicly if anything happens to him.

What percentage of the documents are even documents that have an individual story associated with them anyway? Who knows what they all are, but what if half of it is all related to 1 topic like US citizen digital communications?

Can't deny that Greenwald is cashing in though. I ride the fence a bit on these topics - how deep does the rabbit hole really go? How much is truly orchestrated by nefarious and mostly anonymous "powers that be"?

It is quite suspicious when CNN and NPR report on something like this.

If his story was pre-written, it's a good one. Reasonable doubt as to why no one else ever stepped out to this level: you risk your life taking on the world's most powerful force, you give up the life you have, you give up a big salary.

There's been a number of whistle blowers before him though that never got 1/4 the headlines he is getting, why is it suddenly getting hyped by MSM? Is it dinosaur media trying to generate viewers and pageviews, a sort of mini capitalist self correction? Is it just journalists being opportunistic that have been partially scared off? Or is there a deeper agenda? What would the government and big business gain from outing this info?

Sorry I could not resist posting that

Would Greenwald sell his reputation for 200 million dollars?

I would.

He and Saint Snowden are about to get paid for their CIA work. Sibell Edmonds explains:

Just realized Sibell was the whistle blower FBI language specialist excluded from 911 testimony. A real peek behind the curtain. Thanks again Charlie and Paracast for such great resources.
