It's kind of funny to me. Most of the folks who love dat ole climate change are the first to admit the earth is ancient. In the many. many moons the earth has been here. The climate has changed. Ice and fire ages. Giant lizards and flying humoungous reptiles in the sky. Ages come and go. Yet the earth abides. Humanity might indeed contribute to climate change on some level. But, it is almost (to me) on a par with a six day creation and six thousand year old earth to think "we" are changing the climate. The climate will continue to change. Ages of fire and ice will continue to happen. Then one day the space brothers will appear from the sky. The ancient ones will complete our evolutionary journey with science which to us will seem as magic. The earth will be cooled and mankind will be erradicated....uhhh, sorry Klatu told me I was supposed to leave that last part out.

It's just amazing to me how people fall for this scam. Al Gore rides around in a limo, flies private jets, lives in a huge mansion while telling everybody to sacrifice and tighten their belts. Maybe we can also attribute warming temperatures on Mars to cow farts

Well, you're wasting your time. Changing someone's mind about a political belief is impossible (And global warming, what I believe you were referring to, has much more to do with politics than science-righties don't buy it, lefties accept it like the word of God. That ain't a coincidence!). It's the most divisive subject there is. Even religion is small potatoes, nowadays anyway, next to politics. On occasion I can change a mind or two with something I say about UFOs,...but politics? Never! No matter how hard I might try it always proves to be a futile exercise. So at middle-age I now understand the utter pointlessness in it and save a rare lapse in judgment here and there I don't bother trying.

environmentalism and the CAGW theory IS a religion. it is totally based on a belief system. not one scientist in favor of the AGW scam nor anyone here can use the scientific method to prove that human contribution of CO2 is anything to be worried about.

I completely disagree. If there was a grain of truth to this Fox news would be on this like white on rice on a paper plate with a glass of milk in a snowstorm.

What? Sir, Fox News is fair and balanced. This is the channel that offers the great Glenn Beck, the esteemed Sean Hannity, the impartial Bill O'Reilly, and....this is the channel that gives Sarah Palin millions of dollars to keep us informed.

This is why I only watch Canadian news and NPR for American stuff. Even at that, the extent of my NPR listening is On The MEdia, This American Life, Planet Money, and Wait Wait don't Tell Me. All great podcasts by the way.

Canada is a pretty cool country by the way. Did you know we're your largest support of oil? Did you also know you guys buy a hell of a lot of hydro electricity from us too? Also, before you start knocking our way of doing things, look up any index of quality of life rankings and compare where you rank in comparison to all those crazy "socialist" countries.

Agreed, although Canada does benefit from having a friendly big brother with REALLY big muscles that borders them to the south. Wouldn't you say this allows them to invest in things they otherwise would not be able to?

Absolutely! I'm happy to have the USA as such a close partner in everything. I'm just glad our national financial regulations protected us from the issues south of the border. However, I would not give up all of our social programs here in Canada and Quebec to move to the USA. Anyone who has small kids in daycare - how does $7 per day "socialized" daycare sound to you. Not bad, eh?
There's shitty stuff too though. Run a search on Montreal roads... That's pretty pathetic.

that is exactly what the bought and paid for scientists are saying, where have you been for the past 30-40 years? first it was global cooling and the looming ice age coming because of evil humans, then it was global warming, then it was global warming, then it was climate change, then it was climate disruption., all BS. the whole carbon tax scam is based on this. real climate scientists are saying move along nothing to see here.

CO2 is the "pollution" these bought and paid for scientists are claiming is destroying the planet. if you think this is true please do the right thing and hold your breath for about 30 minutes to help save the planet.

Did i say all the data is false? NO. Did I EVER say all of the scientists are in on it? NO. My ONLY problem with the whole AGW scam is making CO2 a poison that needs to be regulated and taxed.

The can of worms is open so my 2 cents worth--

Global climate history is a story of cycles within cycles. The so-called Little Ice Age began around 1200 A.D., coming on the heels of an unusually warm period. The Little Ice Age saw temperatures in the 1600s that turned northwest European winters almost Siberian. Temperatures have gone steadily upward since then. Earth's climate has never been "stable", man-made gases or not.

Ways in which we trash the ecology are real issues. I'm not convinced global warming is one of them.

Addendum: I used to hang on a forum with a frighteningly high percentage of big brains--Phds in physics, engineers, Star Wars rocket scientists etc. I was the semi-educated rabble lol. This same subject was broached and argued over for hundreds of pages. And agreement was never reached! It's a slippery issue

Not to hijack the thread but. I notice everybody has their own agenda. I have looked for a progressive church or organization to at least give my child a background in the religion of my youth. He can then make up his own mind as to what he keeps and what he throws away. Anyway, I wanted to go to the church I met my wife in. OMG! They were so far right wing (when did the local church become a political wing?) I just couldn't take it. Loved the quiet reflection and the progressive music and my abilty to close my eyes and reflect. But, just couldn't take the political "Repulicans are holy, libs are evil jargon." O.k. so I'll try the Unitarians right? Even handed, logical, agnostic,everybody welcome. Right? WRONG! They were so far left their brains fell out. Free speech for everybody except those nasty Tea Party and other republicans. "They" have to be exposed and ridiculed. All Democrats or in the right and all republicans are racist,bigots and even though the right savaged Clinton and the left riddled Reagan...well anybody and I mean ANYBODY who spoke ill of this prez had to be a racist. I saw a lot of self hating white upper middle class folks there. Oh wait, they didn't hate themselves. They were already "made." They hated the "other" racist whites and only people of "color" could be oppressed. Wonder what they would have said to my poor depression era coal mining grandparents? Anyway, don't think people don't have agendas. Don't think anything human is without an agenda. People buy scienctist and clergy and everybody in between to bolster their own arguments.

tyder, sounds like you went searching for spiritual sustenance and found hard nosed politics instead. Worrisome social battle lines are forming. Google up "demons, christian apostolic reformation, seven mountains-- etc." You may be surprised by what you find. I'm not saying any one creed or philosophy is totally right or wrong. It's the inflexible attitudes on all sides that are alarming.

Apologies if this this sounds like off topic ranting. I fear we are being quietly steered down a self-destructive path.
