Whole Foods and Monsanto Partner Together

Free episodes:

I really don't trust anyone to mess with evolution, certainly not Monsanto!

We all know that sooner or later something really messed up is going to happen if Monsanto etc. continue, and they probably will. They already messed up the lives of many farmers. They already perverted humanity when they started patenting genetically modified animals. The arrogance!

Btw., isn't it interesting that pigs and humans share many genetic traits and Monsanto has long worked with pigs and has patented pigs?

And I wonder, who ever decided that you could patent a pig in the first place? Is everything about money?

I could see Monsanto patent their first employee. If they find the genes for dirty politics and a general lack of ethics, I'm sure it would fit right in with management.

Meanwhile, the good news is that Bhutan is leading the way, and is basically going 100% organic. Bhutan Bets Organic Agriculture Is The Road To Happiness : The Salt : NPR

What is so perverse is that we decided tampering with nature was ok, and that by interrupting nature we coud attach a price tag to it. The irony is that we are more profitable and productive when we do it naturally - but then there is no profit. So we will patent life forms, package it in plastic and sell it back to us. To be honest i'm surprised that people still get to have sex freely. One day, after we've killed everything and synthesized everything we will move into our Brave New World where 'ending is better than mending' and no one has babies anymore. I hope the soma is as good as Huxley said it would be.

It depends on the issue, but i have seen many smaller local wins via these sorts of petitions. Most recently one i participated in saved a dog on death row.
I really like the Avaaz format, global reach and the opportunity you get to have to cast a 'citizen of the planet' vote. What is very telling about our apathy regarding GM life forms is that the petition is only at 75,000. Not that these are comparable in any way, but when you look at petitions around saving 14 year old girls from being stoned to death by backwards patriarchal systems of law, the petition hits 1 million pretty fast. Like the environment, it seems that things that involve sustaining everyone's life are issues we are willing to accept slowly with shrugs of shoulders and corporate rhetoric.
