Ammo Hoarding Sweeps US

Free episodes:

The ammo situation is actually getting better. For awhile there earlier this year you couldn't hardly get most popular calibers and the price was outrageously high, over $500 for a thousand rounds of .223, for example. Now the price is down to $350 and you can actually find it. .45 & .38 is still hard to come by, but 9mm is plentiful. The same was true of many firearms as well. You couldn't hardly find an AR-15 and they flew off the shelves.

The reasons for the shortage were many and varied. First, hoarders were camping out at Wal Mart to wait for the daily shipment. Second, capital was short because of the credit crunch. Third, the manufacturers were reluctant to ramp up production for fear it would be a temporary surge.

80 million Americans own firearms and treat them in a safe & responsible manner. Since 1900 the number of deaths from accidental shootings has been cut in half while the population has tripled. That's a six-fold decrease. Most all the deaths from firearms in this country are perpetrated by people who have one illegally.

So if I own an illegal firearm, in the US, I can still hoard ammo, right?

You can, but you're probably not going to campout at walmart awaiting the latest shipment. And even if you decide to do so, there will be a few law-abiding citizens in front of you.

Technically, yes. Just pay cash. This has all come about because of Obama, of course, and an AG that is avidly against the Second Amendment. BTW, this story is old news.

Ah sorry to dredge that one up Schuyler, Canadian news media really didn't carry that story. If you guys aren't worried about this, then neither should I be. Am I right?

Not worried. The militia groups already have tons of ammo. They're scary as hell, but pretty well contained and marginalized. This is just normal people stocking up. I think the worry is that if there were a total breakdown of law & order, then people want to be prepared. This is, imo, not really an anti-government issue as it is the fear there would be no government at all. Most people will lock this stuff up tight and just sit on it. I'll bet it winds up being passed down to the next generation still unopened.

.22 l.r.'s are as cheap and plentiful as ever. Anyone who doubts the stopping power of this round, inside of 100 yards, hasn't dropped as many wild hogs as I have.
If you're looking for something combat-grade and don't want to deal with the high price of .223's, 7.62's, etc., the Suomi M31, which spits readily available 9mm's is an excellent choice and you can get a new one for under 600 bucks.

Can you actually get one of those these days? It looks like they're pretty scarce. I managed to get a Bushmaster AR-15 (.223) but everyone's on back order for those as well. Of course, the price is up, too.

You may have to do some digging, but they are around.
Here's one I found for a little over 600 bucks. I bet it's a blast to empty a 71 round drum.
If you already have an AR 15 and want to be able to shoot cheaper or more readily available ammo, Olympic Firearms sells conversion kits for 9mm, 10mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and .22 lr.

The 'American 180' is an awesome gun. They are expensive, if you can even find one, but it's still on my wish-list. They can spray a 275-round drum of .22 lr's like a water-hose.

I can't say I blame people with some of the proposed anti-gun laws out there. Heck, did anyone see what California recently passed? Thumb scaned? That's outrageous. Like a real life Twilight Zone.

Sounds like the grasshopper and ants story (http://www.bartleby.com/17/1/36.html). Fall is in the air. Good luck! :)

Except of course that you can't eat ammo. Also it's in total contradiction to things like logic. Anyone who thinks more guns and more ammo equals more saftey hasn't seen that recent shoot out in Ohio(?).

Racists can't accept that the President isn't white. Bottom line. You can make all the counter arguments you want, none of them hold water, it's a clear cut case of cause and effect (say that five times fast!).
