Any fans of MMA here?

a movie clip is how you back up your ridiculous statement?
i would suggest you get in a ring or cage with a MMA fighter and see how creative he/she can be at changing your views.

I think the clip manages to convey the gestalt rather well, the blood ,the injury, the pain inflicted, the blood lust raging in the veins of the audience.
Their fists up mouths locked in a rictus of barbaric exitement.

And you make an interesting point, you think a practitioner of MMA can beat some appreciation of what they can do into me ?

Thats the crux of the very indictment i would place on the idea of fighting as entertainment.
Its a primitive reaction. My old instructor would always say its better to think your way out of trouble, than fight your way out.

But i could throw down the same challenge, how about you let an MMA fighter work you over to within an inch of your life, and then tell me how "entertaining" it is.

Out of interest whats your view on cock fighting or dog fighting ?

i said nothing about anyone beating you. they can show you how many creative ways there are to overcoming an opponent.

would you say that was a creative use of his martial art or a dangerous primitive one?

Now its my turn to call BS

i would suggest you get in a ring or cage with a MMA fighter and see how creative he/she can be at changing your views.

You didnt say get an MMA fighter to show you, you said get in a ring or cage with a one.......

As to the second question, the answer is his advice doesnt refer to using a martial art at all, Thats the point a smart person can avoid using self defence if they think ahead.

I'm done discussing it though, you think fighting is entertainment, i dont

again. i said nothing about beating you.

using your head and your calm, disciplined confidence to avoid a conflict is gained from martial arts training. here is a good example, I grew up being picked on and because I was not confident enough to stand up to a bully and I was a prime target for a beating. Since learning my martial art I have had dozens of encounters with bullies and because I can look them in the eye and say "I do not want to fight" OR get right back in their face and say "ok let's go"... every one of them backed down. In 35 years of martial art training and 10 years of bouncing at a local pub I have never thrown a punch or a kick, I have however utilized some very creative restraints similar to or the same as submission holds utilized by MMA fighters.

I said MMA fighting is a creative martial art and I agree it is entertainment as well. Personally I think going to a symphony would be the very last thing on my bucket list.

cock and dog fighting are not interesting or entertaining for me and I would never go to either fight. In some cultures it is acceptable and we have to acknowledge that.

we get it for free in norway on canal+ ( its a pay channel like HBO but we dont pay for individual programming ).
