I found the following news story on The Washington Times website. Here is the link ... CURL: Astronaut says were not alone - Washington Times

I thought the forum members would find this of interest.

Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar D. Mitchell, the sixth man ever to walk on the moon, has a message for all citizens of Earth: We are not alone.
"We are being visited," the 79-year-old grandfatherly "spacefarer" told 100 or so UFOlogists gathered at a National Press Club conference called by the Paradigm Research Group (motto: "It's not about lights in the sky; it's about lies on the ground").
"It is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence," said the astronaut who made the longest moonwalk in history. "I call upon our government to open up ... and become a part of this planetary community that is now trying to take our proper role as a spacefaring civilization."

With a new, perhaps more intellectually curious president in the White House, UFOlogists say, the time is ripe for the United States to follow the lead of other nations and release all classified files about government interaction with extraterrestrial beings. In fact, PRG founder Stephen Bassett demands that the Obama administration dump the documents, and quick.
"If it does not disclose, by the end of May - this is not a threat or anything, you don't threaten the United States government, they're heavily armed ... the PRG has an enormous and substantial network, and quite a bit of documentary evidence connected to this, particularly politically ... and we are going to be extensively putting that out to the media, and we're just going to make it as difficult on them as possible," Mr. Bassett said.
If Mr. Obama refuses, Mr. Bassett said there's a chance "above 50-50" that the United States could fall victim to another space gap, this time by being beaten by another nation more willing to finally admit "the extraterrestrial presence."
"We will wake up and pick up The Washington Post or The Washington Times and the headline will read: 'President [Nicolas] Sarkozy of France today will tell the French people about a confirmation of an extraterrestrial presence and provide evidence from defense military files.' We will follow, and they will lead."
Packed into the First Amendment Room on the 13th floor (UFOlogists are apparently not triskaidekaphobic), the conference featured a half-dozen experts - all but one titled "doctor." Former U.S. Air Force Lt. Milton Torres entranced the audience with a firsthand account of his encounter with a UFO.

Flying over England on May 20, 1957, "I got this blob - it was not a blip, it was a blob" on his radar screen, big as an aircraft carrier, he said. "Then he took off at Mach 10," something around 7,000 mph. The 77-year-old retired professor of civil engineering choked up as he retold how he was forbidden by a "spook" ever to speak of the incident, even to his father.
The incident came out in late 2008 when Britain declassified a batch of Ministry of Defense files on unidentified flying objects. "It was such a relief for them to let me know that I can talk about this," he said between sobs.
Roger Leir, author, lecturer and "alien-implant researcher," told the group that "multimillions" have been abducted worldwide, and some have been implanted with strange, tiny devices used to monitor or control.
Holding court afterward, the doctor said the devices are similar to how we humans "tag" animals. Tagging "about 15 percent of the species results in enough didactic knowledge to satisfy the curiosity of whoever put 'em in."
Cheryll Jones, a former CNN news anchor, said she was surprised when she first started attending UFO events. "I was expecting a lot of crazies, tinfoil hats and all," she said with a laugh. "But I think we can all benefit from being a bit more curious. Look at the cattle mutilations. Maybe it's the military, but I don't know."

Most, though, appeared to have come to see Mr. Mitchell. As perhaps the highest-profile claimant of alien visitation, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology doctor in aeronautics and astronautics told the gathering the time will come when we have to get off this rock we call Earth.
"The sun will burn out in due course, and we have to be off this planet if our species is to survive," he said. "At this point in human history on this planet, we're now starting, and should be, to reach out beyond our planet and then beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."
After the press conference, Mr. Mitchell said he got involved because people with UFO encounters "figured I was reliable enough to carry their stories and not compromise them."
"All of a sudden, when I began to realize the UFO phenomenon and alien visitation was real, I thought, 'OK, we're not alone in the universe.' That's pretty big news for we humans."
Asked why there still is no definitive proof, he said: "We have that, it's just that it's been covered up and denied by the powers that be in our own government," adding that "there's a secret government" that may be run by the "military-industrial complex."
"We've got to get to the bottom of this. It's our place in the universe we're talking about. We are really universal beings." And as to whether his foray into UFOlogy is detracting from his reputation, he said, "Maybe I'm damaging it, but it doesn't matter, because I know we're right about this."

Yeah, just you wait US government, if you don't do what we've wanted you to do for the last 50 years, than we're going to do what we've been doing the last 50 years.

fap fap fap.

Great article, thanks for posting this, Decker!

Love that motto, too:

"It's not about lights in the sky; it's about lies on the ground."

I also say:

Government doesn't like to be (or admit to being) outclassed.

I think that is a major part of the reason. Perceived security and stability is more important than truth about a phenomenon that you can't and won't be able to control in the foreseeable future. No point opening that can of worm if you don't have to.

However, judging by the shady and opportunistic behavior of this phenomena, putting a potential threat tag on it is fair game. Being at the receiving end of all this crap... I'd prefer have an idea of what hit me before I get zapped :D

Love that movie. Gimme some Slim!

The problem is that Dr. Mitchell has aligned himself with Bassett and his troop of charlatans, and thus, is poisoned by association. He's made these statements before, but of course, the focus ends up being on his status as an Apollo astronaut, not anything he's saying about alien life. On top of that, it's not like Dr. Mitchell is relaying anything about personal sightings or direct firsthand knowledge, he's just saying that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe, and it's likely visiting Earth. At this point, anyone who wants to debate the existence of life elsewhere in the Universe is not going to get much of an argument from a reasonably intelligent person, and as we've said many times on the show before, the ETH is likely too simplistic to adequately fit the observations about the UFO phenomenon that have been made over the years. So no, I don't expect much will come from Dr. Mitchells statements.

But has he aligned himself with them? I didnt think he promoted himself as part of the exo-political 'movement' (hate calling it a movement).

He just goes where the money is I think.

If James Fox and Leslie Kean do another conference at the National Press Club, I really hope they get Mitchell. This will surely raise his cred level and give their event more exposure (assuming Mitchell isnt damaged goods already as far as the media goes).

Ed was with Greer's bowel/disclosure movement for awhile. Once it became clear to Ed greer is a tard, kook, whatever word you wanna use, he left. Will the same thing occur with Bassett? We'll have to wait and see.

This Ed stuff crops up at least once a year, for at least a decade now I think. People forget the previous times for whatever reason.

I don't think so. Generally, the phenomenon looks like flying craft, often with aliens, and any ETs capable of coming here are very far advanced, and probably can cause all kinds of strange apparitions and hallucinations.

Of course not, There have been calls for disclosure for decades already....

Your simplistic thinking is exactly why we'll never get a handle on this stuff... do you actually listen to the show?

Anyway, believe what you want, I really don't care. You already know the answers, so why even bother asking questions?

I've got a bit of an explanation for that... Put yourself back in the 60's and 70's time frame. You're sent out to the moon with the cultural/religious background of the times.

Do you really think you could have fully processed the moon experience with that kind of framework ?... I can totally understand the need to build a new framework, no matter how weird it is, to help you keep your sanity ;).

None of the other eleven astronauts who walked on the Moon seem to have felt the need for this. He's the only one who has expressed this. BTW I really don't have a big problem with what he is saying. It's just that his credibility within the scientific community is just about zilch; and no one is going to pay attention to him this time any more than they have over the last forty years. So, those looking to him as some sort of spearhead to force 'Disclosure' are going to be disapppointed.

Mitchell at 79, is a bit like my father. Sometimes naive, very prood, good natured and gives his trust too easily. Only to realize the gaffe later !

Like Darth Sidius said, 'If Mitchell could be turned to our side, he'd be a formidable asset'. With proper direction his energy and dedication would tip the balance towards disclosure.

This guy would be an amazing guest !

Nearly all astronauts that went to the moon turned to religion heavily once they got back I've heard.

I've read Mitchell's book and enjoyed it. I don't know what to make of his Geller support though.

Mitchell experienced what's called an 'epiphany':
The term is used in either a philosophical or literal sense to signify that the claimant has "found the last piece of the puzzle and now sees the whole picture," or has new information or experience, often insignificant by itself, that illuminates a deeper or numinous foundational frame of reference.

I'd be very surprised if the other astronauts haven't sensed this also. Its just that Mitchell decided to take the experience a bit further (thus the flakyness rofl).

Really? Can you document that? Somehow I can't imagine Neil Armstrong or Alan Shepard 'getting religion.' James Irwin (Apollo 15) was a Christian before he went. Charles Duke (Apollo 16) became a Christian after his flight. I've read through short biographies of all 12 and can't find any other references to religion. Besides which, I wouldn't call Mitchell 'religious' within the standard definitions. His www.noetics.org is into some weird shit, but it isn't exactly religious.
