for whatever reason the American situation gets more coverage world wide.

Well it's probably becuase you shout louder... and constantly... incessantly, even. Plus you never miss an opportunity to remind the rest of us that you are:

Well see.. its all a matter of perspective. To an outsider, Americans are arrogant and rude and dumb and imperialistic etc. But to a traditional American, Europeans/Canadians/Austrialians are whiney, jealous, condiscending, all talk and no go. You say that we throw our military weight around and bully other nations, we say that we saved your asses time and again and deserve some gratitude for keeping Russia and Nazi germany from eating you up. Perhaps the "truth" is a mix of all of the above, and none of the above.

Speaking in the broadest of possible brushes of course ;)

Hell.. national rivalry is sort of a world pastime isn't it? I hear the French and British aren't exactly best of buddies. Or Japan and China. Or pick ANY two neighbors. It's like sports teams, only better.

To be realistic we don't have the outrageous military budget you do, or the population base to support it (there's less people living in all of Canada than live in California alone, for example) so we couldn't be as "go" as you guys even if we wanted to.

Yes but that sort of thing is also matter of perspective. You say you rode in and saved the day all John Wayne style, others might suggest that sitting on your hands for three years and watching the homelands of your grandfathers get crushed under the heels of jackboots first is hardly heroic...

Of course! Can't start niglining around with details, where's the fun in that? ;)

Before you sprain your collective wrists from patting yourselves on the back too hard, I think it's only fair to point out that the current German Chancellor is a woman, that Great Britain had Thatcher back in the 80s and that throughout the governments of the rest of the nations of the west, women and non-whites occupy continuously increasing percentages of their respective governmental bodies.

New Zealand's Prime Minister is a woman.

p.s (sorry Mike. Didn't see your post)

Im Australian, born in New Zealand, and a loyal subject of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth .(who like Baroness Thatcher i greatly admire. i'd serve them tea and cucumber sandwhiches on my front lawn anyday)
i reiterated my point in regards to the most powerful and influention nation on earth because its the basis of my premise that for such a nation having a female or black president is significant in the context of being the most powerful nation that history has ever seen.
i watch Time Team , i appreciate the rich history of the british isles

my observations are not based on patriotism, just the reality as i percieve it
dont shoot the messenger lol

Likeit or not, we whiney Canadians have a geographic connection to our southern neighbour.
The facts is we must like it, because our own stake in the US economy is the highest of any other country in the world including China!
Yes we remain the largest trading partner the US has!
(Topping China by a whisker)
There are current plans to enjoin with the US and mexico in a partnership that obviously benefits the USA far more than its two lackey partners....
Are well advanced, and integration /harmonization of criminal as well as business and goverment law is taking place.
Recent co-occupation agreements allow the US and Canadian militaries to co-operate cross border with no restrictions virtually linking the two forces in co-operative deployments cross border.
This argues for an already unfied chain of command in existance on land sea and in space and air defenses.
Mexico could provide a ready source of recruits for the US armys well bled battalions no ehausted and battered in Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Were gonna get John McCain this next time yu mark my words.......If Georgey dont go Martial Law that is......Hillary or Obama would be the sametools of the same controllers anyway.

You may be right, i wonder if that is a permanent choice though?
It seems Obama has raised some forty two millions compared to less than half that for the others(any one of em)
As far as voting with financial support, it seems people are far more willing to put their money where their Obama is.....
This may make for some very interesting voting gymnastics to squeek Hitlery past the gate and into the race.
Dont you think?
The election promises to get very dirty, down, and nasty very soon now....
With the dirty laundry swingin in the wind.
If there could be an unpaid parking ticket from twenty years hence wed be hearing about it loud and long......
Still, the vote is cast in easily defeated machines, and the stealing of the presidency, we can safely say, has been accomplished through a variety of mechanisms heretofore....
My sympathy lies with my American brothers and sisters who have the sense to dig for truth, but cannot seem to find a way to disseminate it soon enough to make a difference.
God Bless America, and its true patriots.

I would like to see someone here to make a reasonable pitch to vote for Obama rather then some sort of "lessor of evil" type of situation.

Anyone?

Not too likely. In this case I'd say voting for Obama is preferable even in the "devil you know" scenario simply because we know the other two devils quite well and frankly, how much worse could he be?

A total global economic meltdown, WW III, and the collapse of the Untied States of America.

Let's ignore the complete paranoid delusion one would have to live in to believe that for a second and ask how those are less likely to happen under the leadership of Billary or McBush?
