Are you familiar with the work of John Lilly? He claimed to be contacted by a malevolent entity called the Solid State Intelligence (SSI). If I remember correctly it was something like Skynet of Terminator fame contacting him telepathically. Of course Dr. Lilly may have been on a boat-load of psychoactive drugs at the time but that is beside the point. The Internet would seem to be the perfect place for an SSI to find an outlet for its malice if such a thing had any possibility of actually existing anywhere outside of his or possibly Philip K. Dick's robust imagination.
