Greer and The Sirius Film

Free episodes:

I started nodding off about half way through, not because of lack of interest, I was just pooped. Was that Royce that expressed his concern for Greers future safety from his devote followers?

Yes Spooky, that was Royce. God only knows what snakes swarm thru the brains of some of those "devoted followers." Who knows? Stranger things have happened. Remember the Heaven's Gate business?

I have to admit my familiarity with many of ufology's characters isn't all that deep. I am familiar with Steven and it didn't take me long to write him off as a flake given many of his claims. So when I heard Chris and goggs mention his messiahianic (spl.) complex in the latest paracast I thought maybe they were using a little hyperbole. I had no doubt he does have some passionate followers but i didn't consider the possible consequences until your round table.

Wow

He wouldn't be the first cult leader in the UFO field. But I wonder if we glorify him by discussing him too much. Nevertheless, thanks for setting up this roundtable, which can serve as an historical document of what Gre'r is all about.

I don't think we are glorifying Greer, but guys like this certainly do need to be discussed especially when they are in the news. We "old timers" in the field have seen our share of BS artists over the years but the newer folks often do not have the background in this stuff that we do. I think we should share what knowledge we have if asked. I really don't think any objective observer could accuse us of glorifying Greer in this thread.

I'm not so sure anyone would, upon reading these threads gene, mistake any discussion of Greer here as glorification, the general feeling about him is pretty clear. if anything, we would have to be concerned with his trolls causing problems being that Stevens name is not mentioned in good terms. Given last nights dmr show I have to wonder if the "Gre'rian's" are capable of creating havoc here. Although that probably would have happened by now given some of the content here.

We glorify him by giving him attention that he doesn't deserve. There's that old saw about not mattering what you say about someone, so long as their name is spelled correctly.

One more thing: I'm not seeing the Gre'rians coming here in great numbers. I think they realize this forum isn't friendly to them. But that didn't stop fans of He Who Shall Not Be Named back in 2006.

Thought this may interest, it was mentioned in the latests shoptalk episode by myself. Check out the tone of the piece, I don't think the reporter was aware really of Steven Greer's UFO connections. Sorry, don't know how to rotate it.

Biedny and Moody together? That alone would bring me out to listen; eviscerating Greer should, I'm hoping, make for some premium sardonic laughs. The only thing missing is getting Greer on the show as well. I hope his fan base gives a listen if they're not too busy baking greys shaped gingerbread cookies for Steven's picnic with his ET buds.

Lance doesn't think there is any good evidence for UFO's. David says he has seen a huge mothership and discs, another time seeing a craft over his former home close up and another sighting even more extreme.
So Lance must think either David is lying, or so unable to determine a mundane event from an extreme one....to me there is no middle ground. What David described can only be what he says and he says many people saw that cigar-shaped craft and discs in Venezuala.
I'd like to hear a Lance/David one on one, debating solely David's accounts of his sightings. Now that would be interesting!

Lance, if your reading this, what do you say to David's claims of a sighting? And I for one, believe David though of course I wasn't there so...

An interesting show, but ultimately I found it rather disappointing – for two main reasons.

Firstly, the panel discussion simply wasn’t as funny as the Sirius documentary itself. Okay, the bar had been set pretty high on this one...

Secondly, given the people involved, I’d hoped for more factual content. For example, in relation to the debate about whether the Sirius “humanoid” was 6-8 years old there was reference to informal discussions with two experts that considered that the “humanoid” was a fetus (in addition to slightly erroneous references to the Spanish forensic report that reached that conclusion several years ago). Unfortunately, neither of the two experts that had reportedly made those remarks in informal discussions was named and we only got a paraphrased summary of their comments – followed later in the show by a LONG critical discussion of Greer's failure to name sources etc. Okay, such ironies in the show were a bit amusing but not up to the standards set by the Sirius documentary.

The show contained some discussion of the problems of debating some of these issues – but I fear it feel victim to some of those problems itself. Perhaps this is simply a limitation of the podcast format – it’s rather hard/boring to give footnotes or references in such a show. Also, there must be some pressure for the guests to talk (and keep talking) rather than being able to say “hey, let’s pause the recording for a few minutes while I check some basic facts”.

I think that a bit more accuracy and a bit more information about the sources of some of the information would have been very useful. Far too much discussion of UFO issues generates more heat than light and I felt parts of this discussion fell into that trap.

No, I didn't realise it was a live broadcast. That makes it even more difficult for a member of the panel to ask for a few minutes to check their facts or find a supporting reference...
