That's Jerome Clarke's ( author of The UFO Encyclopedia ) pet topic. You might find him mentioning it during some of his interviews here and elsewhere. BTW did you happen to notice the post in the Science Minute thread on the first human powered helicopter to win the Sikorsky prize? This team did it with a bicycle frame, some wire, poles and cloth. Who knows what some creative people back then might have come up with? Although there are apparently a few reports of objects flying around in heavy weather too.
