Greffex scientists have created the first comprehensive vaccine for H7N9 avian influenza. Spreading from Shanghai, and transmitted by birds, H7N9 avian influenza is a highly pathological virus that kills nearly 20% of people it infects, making it more lethal than the 1918 “Spanish Flu.” As infected birds display no symptoms, the spread of the virus is difficult to control. While human-to-human transmission of H7N9 is rare, few genetic changes in the virus could greatly enhance contagion and initiate a fast moving pandemic. Keiji Fukuda, Assistant Director-General for health security at the WHO, characterized H7N9 as an “unusually dangerous virus for humans.”
In just one month after the virus had been characterized, Greffex scientists built an H7N9 avian influenza vaccine using its proprietary GREVAXTM technology. Normally development of such a vaccine takes many months. “We believe the world needs a ‘plug-and-play’TM method of creating vaccines,” says Greffex Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Uwe D. Staerz. “Speed as well as flexibility is needed for vaccine design to combat emerged infectious threats. We had already shown with an Anthrax vaccine that we can create ANY vaccine within one month.”
The GREVAXTM vaccine platform has been purpose-built with support by the NIH and NIST. Let's get back to the topic at hand - and a bit of reality:

We should keep in mind that as much as 8% of the human genome comes from retroviruses - and possibly from other viral genetic data. Some of these changes to our DNA were brought about by viruses that infected our ancestors some 40 million years ago.

While there are those on this thread who will doubtless wonder which government and Big Pharma agencies were developing DNA-changing viruses before there were even homo-sapiens, I'd rather we examine how this is part of the human condition and impacts all organic life on earth.

Viruses play an important role in evolution. That whole horizontal gene transfer thing I keep discussing is about how viruses transfer genes between species, thereby encouraging genetic diversity. Retroviruses are even in our fossil record. As viruses are part of our DNA, these are certainly a reason why humanity has evolved the way it has.

We should also look at how and why viruses are "born", so to speak, and how this impacts the way these evolve, spread, and evolve some more. As most of you have already guessed, we don't need Big Government and Big Evil Pharma to get a new virus. Far from it. Viruses have been affecting our evolution for at least 40 million years and in certain parts of the world, conditions are ripe for new viruses and new strains of viruses to begin.

H7N9 is (yet) another virus to emerge from China, for the same reasons so many viruses emerge in China: We have an extremely dense population of people living alongside the extremely dense populations of livestock and poultry that are needed to feed this human population. This also leads to thriving live-bird and live-animal markets, often in squalor, that are part of the cultural and economic norm. People in China raise and slaughter their own animals, just as humanity has done for millennia before large, industrial markets became the norm in much of the world.

Add into this equation that the Chinese climate is ideal for huge varieties of migratory birds, which may live, eat and nest alongside these enormous populations of captive poultry and other livestock. If you're mixing large numbers of bird species in relatively confined spaces (such as markets and tight-housing areas), you're going to breed new illnesses and viruses, giving them ideal opportunities to spread and mutate. Now also consider we have wild species of birds that may move into these same areas, eat the same foods, get sick with the same (or mutated) versions of the virus, and then migrate to infect other animals in other areas. Then add into the equation:
  • We have an exponentially-growing population,
  • Which leads to the need for greater food sources,
  • Which leads to increasingly large numbers of animals being raised and kept in confined spaces,
  • Often alongside increasingly large numbers of people living and working in confined spaces, due to the exponentially-growing population.
We should also consider that a growing population will move into areas that were once not home to permanent human populations, allowing people to live (and raise animals) alongside other animals which weren't normally coexisting with humans and livestock. Climate change also causes animals to migrate into areas that were not, previously, their natural environment. This causes a whole lotta opportunity for us to be exposed to "new" viruses. You know why. (The term for today is "horizontal gene transfer." Get to know it, as it will affect you.)

Notice a pattern? Viruses are part of the natural condition on earth but our behaviors are causing viruses to grow, mutate and spread - all without any involvement, deliberate or otherwise, by Big Government or Big Pharma.

At of the time of this writing, there is no solid evidence that H7N9 can be spread between humans. As long as this is the case, H7N9 will be relatively benign. What we should be watching is how this continues to evolve and mutate. As the Chinese government is going through leaps and bounds to test birds and other animals for this illness, eradicating entire poultry populations that may have been infected, it's possible that H7N9 will not evolve to the point it spreads between humans. Personally, the first marker I'm looking for is to see if they find any evidence of this in pigs. As (I believe) the Chinese government is looking for evidence of this in pigs, we'll probably see signs of it before we see signs in human populations. If this does start to infect pigs, it's a safe bet it will be affecting humans almost immediately thereafter.

I realize this is a long post, so I appreciate your indulgence for my conclusion: Saying, "I don't understand this, therefore God/Aliens/Big Government is responsible," is to brutally assassinate critical thinking. It's the lazy-man's approach to looking at the world. I'd hate to see it derail an objective thread that's backed in solid research, or kill or an otherwise decent forum. It's one thing to wonder, yet quite another to assume something is correct - without evidence - simply because we want to believe a certain way.
 
when there are recent studies suggesting vaccines may cause autism the science is not settled. but then you think the science is settle on human caused global warming so... because of that you are NOT skeptical. science is based on skepticism.

You say that, but I don't see those article posted. C'mon Pixel, at least provide evidence. Just saying there are studies does not make it so...

And there we go, your conspiratorial mind is at work. So instead of looking at science, you choose to ignore it and look at sources that have the same deluded view of the world. You really need to get past your biases...
 
You might consider being skeptical of your own views. you really are not skeptical OR scientific at all. instead of trying to make your point a true scientist tries to disprove what they think to be true. That is how I got to where I am. I used to get in line to receive my flu shots around the time I was distributing Al Gore's global warming movie. Then I learned about the scientific method and how real scientists go about their work. you are a classic sheeple like I used to be.

I do medical ghostwriting for a living, which by definition means I do medical research for a living. This doesn't make me a doctor or a scientist, but it does indicate I do my homework and am willing to sort through large amounts of information to find what is recent, what is accurate, and what may have since been redacted.

When you quote Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as a source of medical wisdom - when previous articles he's published about mercury and autism are so bogus that the cites which initially published them have since apologized and removed the articles - it tells me you have a limited grasp of any scientific knowledge and are profoundly unaware of current scientific discourse. You are quoting from someone who gambled his professional career on incorrect evidence and a desire for publicity. That you are using this person as a source of scientific rationale, when no fewer than 5 factual errors were found in his initial publication, shows an inherent laziness to do actual research, especially if that research contradicts your previously-held notions. Before quoting Kennedy, it should be noted that those 5 factual errors completely derailed his premise. It should also be noted that in 2011- a year after the "new" article by Kennedy that you cited was published - he still had his initial, unedited article on his site, all without acknowledging the factual errors that debunked his premise. RFK Jr. isn't a scientist or even a politician, but rather a radio host with a history of drug and legal problems, who is desperately struggling for his 15 minutes of fame. He can't even admit his own errors and wrongdoings. I'd say this is a problem.

As a general rule, if someone can't even acknowledge factual errors in his own "research", he probably isn't the best source for additional research. Also as a general rule, I put more stock into what a scientist or scientific organizations say over that of an entertainer with a personal agenda. Please keep in mind, anybody can write on HuffPo's blog. They do not pay these writers nor do they fact-check the opinions of these writers. Remember that when you think you're citing actual "research" that is meant to refute genuine research. You're welcome to believe whatever you choose, but you should know that I would have my ass fired in heartbeat if I used the kinds of "research" you think are the foundations of your opinions.

When you tell anyone else that he is "not skeptical OR scientific at all," it is actually one of the more absurd statements I've read in my adult life. So.... I'm going to put you to task. As you believe your scientific background is better than the Angelo's (or mine), you should have no problems answering the following scientific questions. As you know so much, you should be able to cite this off the top of your head. I know I can. Still, when I get around to answering these for you (after you make an excuse as to why you won't- or can't- do so), I'll be happy to cite my sources:
  1. Why was thimerosal initially added into vaccines? Please include when this was first used in vaccines and other biological and medical products, as these answers are related.
  2. What is the difference between organic and inorganic mercury? Please include how are these are absorbed into the body as well as the most common ways of these types of mercury to enter the body, as well as the health problems associated with each.
  3. Is thimerosal an organic or inorganic compound? Explain why this is relevant.
  4. As of 2001, what percentage of new vaccines, intended for children, have contained thimerosal?
  5. Which types of flu vaccines contain thimerosal?
  6. In 1992, a "new", distinct disease was added into the International Classification of Diseases. This was later included into the autism spectrum, though there isn't a clear scientific consensus between how this disease is different than high-functioning autism. Which "new" disease is this and what percentage of "new" autism cases are from this disorder? (For brownie points, see if you can determine why this questions is related to the other questions.)

97. Also, Baxter is the only flu vaccine manufacturer to work with wild type flu viruses, felt to be more dangerous than the altered and attenuated (weakened) viruses other manufacturers use.​
98. The Austrian police have launched an investigation into the incident that almost triggered a global pandemic. The mixture of the deadly H5N1 virus with a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses is classified as one of the most deadly bioweapons in the world with a mortality rate of 63 per cent.​

So, with the Baxter incident in Austria, there is proof that Baxter not only created the disease producing microorganisms with help from WHO, but also distributed them in large quantities to trigger a pandemic, while positioning themselves to produce the vaccine allegedly to ”protect” against the virus they created and released, but which,so it is alleged, is actually a disguised way of spreading the biological agent and creating a pandemic.​

In criminal charges filed against Baxter on April 8th, 2009 at the Vienna City Prosecutor’s office, Landesgerichtstr 11, 1080 Vienna, Austria by Jane Burgermeister, a resident of Vienna, Austria, it was alleged that Baxter unlawfully, wilfully and knowingly, in the period between December 2008 and February 2009, employed manipulative and deceptive devices and contrivances in violation of national and international laws on the manufacturing, possession, release and dissemination of biological weapons of mass destruction and on organised crime, to manufacture and distribute a biological agent that is classified as a bioweapon among the population in order to profit from the pandemic.​
101. First, Baxter manufactured influenza material contaminated with a bird flu virus in its biomedical research laboratories in Orth on the Danube in December 2008.​
102. Baxter uses BSL 3 (Biosafety Level 3) precautions in its laboratories, a system for the safe-handling of toxic substances, which makes an accidental contamination of ordinary flu material with the dangerous bird flu virus virtually impossible.​
103. The 72 kilograms of contaminated vaccine material contained a mixture of a seasonal H3N2 human influenza virus and the deadly bird flu H5N1 virus. By adding a virus of the type H5N1 to an ordinary flu virus of the type H3N2, The H5N1 virus is restricted in its human-to-human transmissibility, especially because it is less airborne. However, when it is combined with seasonal flu viruses, which are airborne and easily spread, a new bioweapon is created.​
104. Second, Baxter distributed via Avir this contaminated vaccines using false concealment and a false label to 16 laboratories in Austria and in other countries at the end of January/beginning of February, potentially infecting at least 36-37 laboratory staff, who had had to be treated preventively for bird flu and ordinary flu in hospital.​
105. A total of 18 laboratory staff belonging to Avir had to undergo preventative treatment for the bird flu and ordinary flu at the Otto Wagner Hospital in Vienna on February, 9th, 2009, because of their exposure as part of their work to the highly pathogenic bird flu virus.​
106. This indicates that, in the opinion of medical experts, there was a risk that the staff of Avir had contracted bird flu, and, unknowingly, acted as carriers of a pandemic virus into the population of a densely built up Vienna city district and in winter time.​
107. The material was only discovered when staff working for Bio-Test (in Konarovice in the Czech Republic), tested the vaccination on ferrets, who then died.​
