Hi Guys!
First things first....I am spookie and this is my first post here at the Paracast forums. I am a relatively new listener, I have been listening for...hmm...a few months now, maybe a bit more. Anyhow, I have found myself becoming a huge fan of the show! I am a female in my 20s......and I live in Tennessee....

Onto my UFO sighting...and the main reason I am telling my story is not just for the sake of telling my story, but I am also very curious whether or not anyone has seen something similar to what I have seen, so if you read this, and you have...PLEASE tell me about your sighting!!

This happened when I was 13 years old. It was actually on my 13th birthday..August 9th, 1999...
All I wanted that year for my birthday was a telescope, and a microscope. My mother and I were living with my grandmother, and we were quite poor at the time so..I definitely didnt expect to get either of those things! But..my mom came through and got me a cheap lil telescope and microscope...yeah, they were cheap, but they worked (quite well, might I add...I looked at many weird things through that microscope)! So...that night, at about 8 or 9pm I begged my mom to let me go outside and look through my telescope. We lived on a dead end road..and I could go all the way to the end of the road and my mom could still see me from the front yard.

Anyhow...
I ran to the dead end with my telescope, and knocked on a friends door to see if she wanted to look through the telescope with me, but she was grounded. So, I decided to sit in the street and look through it myself. I was out there for about 20 minutes or so (my mom told me I had to come in at 10pm) when I spotted something up in the sky. It looked like a bb ...just...suspended up in the sky. So I put my telescope up to my eye and started looking at it. It was pretty close. I cant really estimate in feet, etc since it was quite a few years ago...but it was not terribly far away. It was quite small when seen by the naked eye, but of course when looked at through the telescope I got a wonderfully close view.

...It...was metallic, like I said, it looked like a bb suspended up in the sky. It had no lights on it, but there was light emanating from the object, if that makes sense? It had no windows, and it seemed to be spinning. Have you ever seen the infomercials for those Fushigi balls? Well, it was spinning in its place very similar to one of those things. Just..hovering there...spinning. No lights, no windows, etc.
Now, I dont know if I was just scared of this thing...but the feeling that I got from sitting there watching that thing in the sky..was sheer terror. I mean I was HORRIFIED and, I dont know how to explain this, but the feeling almost felt as if it was not a feeling that came from within me, but moreso a feeling that was projected into me. At least thats how I remember it, anyway. But..I kept watching, through my scope..until it disappeared. The way it left was like it...sucked itself up into the atmosphere or something. It didnt fly away or anything it just simply ceased to be there. I have thought so much about this over the years...maybe it turned invisible? I dont know...all I know is that I sat there and watched this thing for a good...3 to 5 minutes and then it just disappeared.

I was so afraid at this point, that I got up, dropped my telescope on the concrete accidentally breaking it...I picked up my scope and a little piece that broke off and began to run home. I remember started to run home, but I do not actually remember running home. The next thing I remember was sitting on my front porch with my telescope. I am not saying, or insinuated that I was abducted or anything...I am sure that I couldnt remember running home just because I was so frightened, confused and in shock. Anyhow, I got up and went inside, to the bathroom and apparently I had been crying. My eyes were puffy and I had dirt all over my face, from my hands, where I had been wiping the tears from my face.

Thats the only time I have ever seen anything. But..that sighting is something I think about almost daily..in fact, I am insanely terrified of the idea of extraterrestrials, and abduction (even though I am not even sure if I believe in abduction...just the possibility that it could exist terrifies me)...I mean TERRIFIED of these things. I am not sure if the sighting and my fear are correlated or not.

Thanks for reading and if you have ever seen something like this...please let me know!

Spookie: Welcome, and thanks for the great story. I have only seen one UFO myself, and at first thought it was Venus. For some reason I kept looking at it while I was driving west, and just when I was about to write it off as a planet, (which a lot of folks mistaken for a UFO), the darn thing stated to accelerate straight up. By then I had parked my car, and did a rough estimate of how high it was, and how far away. All of the possibilities went through my head of what else it could have been such as a jet flying straight at me, with the morning sun reflecting off of it. I did the trig, and the numbers just didn't work out. I even re-drove the route to clock the time I had watched it. The best I could calculate was that it had accelerated straight up at least 4,000 mph. Of course these kinds of sightings are full of observational mistakes, and I attempted to be very conservative in my mathematics, but this object had to be something strange. Like your event, after going up for several thousand feet, it too, just vanished. To this day, I have no explanation. pb<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Thanks for sharing that. I've never seen anything that I would say is a UFO, but it's story's like this that make me seriously ponder the possibility of such things. Or at least it makes me wonder what the hell you experienced. You don't seem to have any ulterior motive in relating the story. You were alone, you have no proof, yet shared this experience an attempt to perhaps make sense of it. Another curious thing is your age at the time. I've heard many stories relating similar things all around the same age. I don't know if that is a clue or not, but it is interesting. It is often these tenuous undocumented personal episodes that I find for one reason or another compelling. You probably won't ever get any resolution to this but it will undoubtedly stick with you reminding you now and then, ... WTF?!

Spookie, thanks for the great story. Your description is very clear. If you could, would you be able to recall a few extra details for me. You say there was light emanating around the ball; could you be a bit specific? Was it a glow around the sphere? Any color to it?
Any more information about its movements? Did you have to track it with your telescope? Or did it remain stationary? Do you recall anything odd happening just before its disappearence?
Thanks.

The light that was emanating from around the sphere....was a glow...a veryyy white glow, very pure..no yellow or anything like that. Just white, it wasnt super bright or anything, but it did illuminate the object.

The thing remained stationary the whole time, in fact, I dont remember it ever...appearing..other than it not being there one moment, then myself taking notice of it the next moment. It remained there, totally stationary other than the...spinning..you could not see the spinning with the naked eye. But, through my scope I could see this stationary spinning.

I dont remember anything odd happening before it disappeared..other than the feeling of fear/terror that I got..then it literally just...blipped away. I dont know what in the world this was.....but yeah, I do think about it quite often as TClaeys said...and I have no ulterior motive...my main reason for posting was to see if anyone else had seen something like this because I have not encountered any other story of a craft..or..whatever, like this.

TClaeys:
I have also heard stories about paranormal experiences relating to age, but theyre mostly poltergeist/ghost stories, etc...regarding young girls ..which I was at the time. So maybe there is a relation there. I also live within 100miles of a military base so maybe it was some weird drone they were testing or something? All I know is...it scared me..and its so weird lol. I cant remember who said this..but someone said that once you see a UFO or anything that you cant explain..it changes your life forever...and as menial as my sighting may seem..it certainly has changed me in many ways.

Welcome to the Paracast forum board and thanks for posting your account. Its good to see a 20-something yr-old interested enough in these subjects to post her experience...
1st off: what direction were you looking when you witnessed the object? N-S-E or West> How far above the horizon was the object in degrees? Note: If you put you hand out sideways at arm's length, the width of your hand is about 5 or so degrees. How many hand widths (X 5 degrees) above the horizon was the object? Why are you "TERRIFIED of these things?" Just curious...

I have been interested in UFOs since I saw this thing..even if I didnt really know it was a "UFO" at the time.

I was looking North/West when I saw this thing...more North than West..but definitely neither, if that makes sense. And that memory is quite fresh...the memory of what direction I was looking. I was sitting on the ground and I had to turn my body a bit to keep a steady gaze through my little telescope.

As far as how far above the horizon this thing was...this may be a little tougher for me to remember but I am gonna do my best...hmm..maybe about...15 degrees above the horizon? Maybe 20? Low in the sky....I remember it being close....but that memory could be cloudy...to me it seemed very close. I am trying to hold my arm out and relate all this to memory ...and I feel im doing a bad job haha.

I have no clue why I am terrified of them. I was young when I saw this, and it was beyond my comprehension..sooo maybe just the initial fright from seeing something I couldnt comprehend...and then as I began to learn about UFOs, and Extraterrestrials and...everything inbetween ...it scared me, understandably so for a 13, 14, 15, year old girl. Mainly abduction scares me. Terrifies me. I dont even think I believe in abduction but the smallest possibility that it could be real just..there is not a lot that scares me..like that.

For example..here is a story..
My boyfriend and I were out walking around in the woods one night, and I asked him what would he be the most afraid of..and he said it would be quite scary if we ran into some crazy person, some crazed bum or a crazed hiker, etc, etc. Something along those lines. He asked me the same question..and I said...I would be most afraid of running into an alien. Or seeing an object come down from the sky to "get me." That kind of...crazy logic. I feel quite embarrassed telling this but..whatever..its me.

I was looking North/West... this thing was...about 15 degrees above the horizon? Maybe 20? Low in the sky....
Looking at my planisphere, there is a good possibility that you were watching Arcturis setting to the west. Arcturis ( a red giant) is the brightest star viewed from the northern hemisphere and is the fourth brightest star in the night sky. As it approaches the horizon, the light spectra separate and appear to alternately flash reddish to white, giving the impression that it is revolving. FYI: In late summer '97 (I'd have to chase down the exact date) an Outward Bound instructor (a true "mountain-man" who trained Outward Bound instructors) called and reported Arcturis setting as a "ufo." (You would think this uber-outdoorsman would know the difference...) I grabbed my planesphere and quickly ID'ed it while on the phone with him-- much to his embarrassment. The following night I wasn't surprised when another witness called to report the star as it set in the west X northwest. I'm not saying that this star is what you witnessed, but the scenario you describe; a young girl looking through her telescope for the first time toward a tricky star setting in the sky... well...it's only a theory, *smile*.

Again, welcome to the forum and please bring all your questions, thoughts and insights! We are a talented, up2speed bunch.

That makes a lot of sense! Any reason why the star would have looked like a big metal BB in the sky? I looked up a couple pictures of Arcturis ....doesnt look like what I saw, but that definitely doesnt mean that isnt what I saw. In fact, I think I would much rather it have been a star...just to put my own mind at ease. Thanks!

The one thing that bothers me/stands out in my mind..is that...after all of these years, I still love looking at the night sky and I still have a cheap little telescope..but I have not ever seen another object that was anything like the one I saw. Most of the things I see in the sky are...airplanes that are moving about..or planets/etc that have come into view...but theyre there..and I could go out the following night and see them if I wished...They dont just show up, and then go away in a matter of minutes. So...just..based on the theory that what I saw was a very common star....why havent I seen it again? I am certainly not debating that theory because I know..just as much about what I saw as the next man (other than myself being the actual witness)....but there are a few questions that stand out...understandably so since this "situation" has had quite an impact on my life and I have lived, and relived the events through my head ..sooooo many times. There is even a little ..helpful quip about finding Arcturus...Arc to Arcturus..then speed to Spica/Find it via the handle of the big dipper...so...I am sure I have unknowingly passed Arcturus many times...so if what I saw was, indeed, Arcturus...why hasnt it stood out to me again? This thing made such an impact that if I ever saw something similar the event would surely stick out in my mind...

Terrifies me. I dont even think I believe in abduction but the smallest possibility that it could be real just..there is not a lot that scares me..like that.
I can certainly see why you became scared of alien abductions. But I don't think there is anything to be scared of, Spookie. I do not think there are any malevolent intentions involved in any of this.

Yes, we humans tend to fear what we dont understand...and I certainly dont understand extraterrestrials :D. But, I do hope youre right when you say that you dont think there are any malevolent intentions involved in any of this.

As I said..I am not quite sure what I believe when it comes to abductions, extraterrestrials, and extraterrestrials visiting this Earth...but I do keep an open mind to the possibility of it all being very real...and that possibility frightens me.

I also wanted to mention that..apparently during the late 90s, and early 2000's (98 through 2001) a suburb of Nashville, TN called Bellevue was a hotspot for "UFO" sightings, and since then has been steadily active in that area. Just recently I read a MUFON report regarding the sighting of not only craft...but a being as well...just about 15 minutes from me. As you can imagine...this is causing me to have sleepless nights.

Anyone else ever heard of Bellevue, Nashville, TN in relation to the UFO phenomena?

Yes, I can imagine. But, Spookie, I wouldn't be losing sleep over this stuff. I really don't think things work the way the science-fiction-horror films portray.
You know, Spookie, after all the supposed abductions in the night, all the implanted anal probes, all the alien medical procedures, and all the hybridization and genetic-manipulation experiments, I still have yet to see any physical evidence presented that passed muster. And I don't think there is a cover-up conspiracy going on either.
As for your locality, I have not heard anything. But others on the board may be better able to address this.

My first sighting I was with my douther home, I got frighten, 20 years after I have seen a few more and nothing like that happened. You sholdnt be afraid because nothing bad has happened to you, then or since that episode. On the contrary you should feel special for not everybody can see them.

Great stuff. I was just streaming the new “Battle of L.A.” which I had thought would have been about the 1942 event, but turns out to be about another bunch of evil aliens who attack our planet in order to steal its natural resources. This is so human. We think that any species that is on the lower branch of the intelligence tree, is going to be violent, and want to destroy every society they encounter. If one really looks at the original battle of L. A back in 1942, it is obvious that the craft, or whatever it was, was not in the least affected by thousands of rounds of anti-aircraft weapons. This would lead me to conclude that a civilization that was as advanced to develop technology that can withstand our weapons could have just as easily blown the city of L.A off the map. We still think that the aliens have evil intentions because we have evil intentions. Even the Budd Hopkins and Dr. Jacobs ideas that the grays are interbreeding into our society as some form of evil project, is probably way off base. I don’t disbelieve that the aliens might be interbreeding with humans, but once again, I think that if they were anything like humans, they would have just came to earth with guns blazing, and blasting us off the map. If anything the interbreeding project, if correct, is something that will benefit both humans and little gray dudes. But that is just my option; I have no data to back up these ideas.

It's not so human as it is so nature. The struggle for survival is a competition for resources in which every species on the planet participates. Intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with altruistic behavior. Neither does the ability to create technology. Advancements in technology certainly do not equate to advancements in spirituality or philosophical sophistication. Therefore, it is perhaps more realistic to assume the worst, that any non-human intelligent species we meet, technologically advanced or not, is going to place the well-being of its species over ours and may seek to exploit us or our planetary resources to that end. We can hope for the best but I think we should prepare ourselves for the worst as nature is our best and only teacher in the game of interspecies relations. The lessons are all around us. In all reality however, I think any contact with a truly advanced society will have such dire unintentional consequences that it should be avoided for as long as possible.

You may be right. ...Or perhaps this statement is one grand assumption based on a perspective gathered from one tiny parcel of the Kosmos. Technology and Spirituality are loaded terms, human-centric and sinking knee deep in our perceptual and conceptual limitations. What if perhaps so-called "Aliens" are on the other side of the Looking Glass, so to speak? Spiritual Technology could effectively put a crimp in our perpetual attempts to project the limitations of own paradigm onto everything that dares threaten to exist alongside us chest thumping, brain farming chimpanzees.
