This really is Putin's disaster and he's the one with his finger on the button. Russia also needs to appear as a mighty power player in globale politics where the Ukraine features in his re-amalgamation 0f the Soviet empire. We've seen him kick it old school by establishing himself as Russia's permanent leader, the re-education of Russian city officials in Russian traditionalism, the anti-gay laws and using the whole 'we must protect Russian speakers' in Georgia, Crimea etc.. But his earlier move through previous pro-Russian leadership to bring the Ukraine back to Russia instead of the Ukraine joining with the EU has back-fired miserably. Now he has a hot mess on his hands, as the sentiment has been stirred, he can't appear to lose face. What a nightmare.

If those gas fields are so sweet then why does Ukraine have to import 80% of its natural gas and why was the gas deal with Russia vs. EU the crisis event that caused this disaster? What we are seeing unfold is a combination of the economic free fall Ukraine has been in for years due to internal political squabbling and Russia's desire to reonsolidate power and territory. I don't see this as a "banker" event at all given Russia's recent proddings. In fact, if you look at how Russia hammered the oligarchs in the past we get good insight into just how weak big Russian corporattions are in the face of old school Moscow muscle flexing. While America may still celebrate white collar crime and pays homage to corporate interests can you really say the same thing about Russia or China? Those environments are more likely to incarcerate permanently or kill those who defy state orders.

I know it's from the "lame-stream media" for all you conspiracy types, but here's a nice little breakdown of what's going on over there.

Is it bad that I just watched The Day After last night and if you replace "Germany" with "Ukraine" this situation sort of resembles what happened in the movie just before the nuclear exchange? Ultimately, though, what Russia is doing here is nothing less than what we did in Iraq when we invaded... both times! We were "protecting our interests".

I say we enforce the sanctions to show our disapproval of the invasion then keep our damn noses out of it. It's America poking our butts in where they don't belong as to why we're so unpopular on a global scale. Apply the sanctions, politically work with both sides and the UN towards a resolution, and otherwise keep out of it.

Notice how CNN conveniently neglects to mention the five billion dollars the U.S. has spent destabilizing Ukraine with rent-a-mobs and funding for Svoboda Neo-Nazi groups.
