The burden of proof

Free episodes:

thats funny because i too agree global warming happens and humans may have caused a very very small percentage of it. All scientists in my camp believe that as well. I too agree we should try to control some emissions, I too think cap n trade is not the answer.
now... if you have any balls or actual science to provide please take it to the new global warming thread. :p

Nice thread. When a claim comes into my sphere of influence, I ask general questions to hopefully lead the claimant into the proof phase with relative ease. If the claim falls apart then we share fun stories for a moment and move on. If on the other hand the claimant goes on and on about this claim and really needs me to believe them, then I decide if telling them I believe is better than crushing them under the weight of my incredible super powers of rational thought. (LOL!). If accepting the claim is harmless and not worth the fight then I will let it all go. But if accepting the claim makes me a nut then I will apply critical thinking and the scientific method. If the claim holds up and we can theorize... Awesome. If on the other hand the claim does not hold up I can either tell that person it was a fun story and thanks but it's just a story or if they really need it I can tell them are probably just mistaken. (or a liar, but I usually reserve that for the "Holy Dellusional", if you know what I mean). Thanks folks it's nice to have a forum with calm rational discussion.

Drat ! I wanted to be your first like, but if you're a fan of calm rational discussion, you could do a lot worse than to follow trainedobservers and stoneharts posts

hahaha thanks spooky :-)

I see the climate change debate has kicked off in due fashion but the religious one has been avoided ...... I call that a success :-)

I like that and its a good way to be... The problem when it becomes a religious debate I either have to just walk away from the start or I will not let it go.. I just don't see it as logical or rational..

Anyway long may this thread live or until we get sick of it and it dies like all others do.

I agree. You have to pick your battles. Tilting at all the windmills gets pretty exhausting. Beating dead horses, even if you alternate arms occasionally, can get to be a pain pretty quick. Sometimes you just have to let it go.
