What personalities in the Ufo field drive you nuts?

To be fair to Stan Friedman, I've heard him say, I think it was on Tim Binnall's show, that he doesn't discount that some UFOs may have a paranormal origin. However, he qualified that statement by saying that as a scientist, he's not interested in the paranormal ones, only the tangible, nuts and bolts craft. I don't think he's as entrenched as some would imagine - he's just chosen to concentrate on one specific aspect of the phenomenon. In all fields, we have generalists and specialists, and I guess this is also true of ufology.

I think Paul Kimble (Stan's nephew, I think) said the same thing on the last paracast he did.

Good points, and I suppose I was a little harsh with Stanton. I think I used him as a substitute for my frustration with the "nuts and bolts" view generally, and the way we place hard science on a pedestal, which was a little unfair (although I don't think *too* unfair, since he is without a doubt the frontman for the nuts and bolts view...)

He's still a credit to the field, all things considered. I try not to think about those people who really do discredit ufology, it's just too frustrating to think about all the hacks and frauds out there.

It is hard to picture Stan cross-legged on a satin cushion meditating, for example.

Actually I dunno about that, I always thought he bears a striking resemblance to Salman Rushdie, who while not perhaps prone to mediating cross-legged is much more of a mystical, right-brain type...

Maybe if I had to pick another group of people it would be David Jacobs and Budd Hopkins and the other hyponotism-enthusiasts.. Maybe hypnotism and regression have a role to play, I'm not qualified to speak to that.. but I always thought they both seemed to place too much faith in what they were being told to construct their "worldviews" of the phenomenon.

Vallee once said something to the effect of, he wasnt so interested in the movie people reported seeing when they came out of the "theatre," (i.e., when they had their experience), he was interested in the little projector hidden way up in the darkness.

I haven't read all of the posts here, but does anyone know anything about this guy?? Dr Boylan?? Here's a very weird list of the good, bad, and ugly according to him. And by the looks of it, he should probably be added to the list of deluded. (Even though he groups some personalities in the right category)

Do you mean ex-Dr Boylan? Deluded is too kind a word :). Read this:

I think his list needs some revision. In the good category, he places Jose Escamilla (the rods nonsense), Paola Harris ('I believe in the Billy Meier case') and Wendelle Stevens (Billy Meier supporter with an unsavoury criminal past). Amongst his bad guys, he includes people like Stan Friedman, Bruce Maccabee and Jacques Vallee . In his ugly category, he lists A.J. Gevaerd and John Greenewald, Jr. Hmm...

Outstanding! I laughed, I cried, I saw the baby Jesus eating a kangaroo sandwich.

Mmmmm. Kangaroo meat is good eating and healthy too. Not only would the baby jesus have enjoyed the sandwich, it would have been good for him as well!

That's a relief. I wouldn't want the baby Jesus eating something unhealthy, for heaven's sake.

A vote for equality is not a vote for favorites. It's only when you demand I see what a cretin the guy you don't like is that it becomes "favorites" in your head. Oddly enough, it never became about favorites in said cretin's head. The repugnant Alfred Lehmberg never gave me an ultimatum to get rid of you or he's leaving and I suspect he doesn't believe himself the bad guy.

Dictators never get this point.

Really ... bet that would have put a spring in his step ... brrnggg tsscchhh (drum roll thingy ma-bob courtesy of Jay Leno's "Ain't I got a Really Strangely Shaped Face Missus and Mein Gott Ain't I as Funny as a Road Accident" Comedy Emporium.

Oh and Stan Friedman ain't much of a scientist if he's going to just look at one part of the UFO phenomena ... that rules out so much data he's only ever going to get a part of the answer.

And he looks like the devil himself too :D

schtick ... think its time to attack demonic looking ufo investigators ... and Michael Horn (see ... 'Horn' ... devil ... evil ... satanic ... killll :D)

Why does making and reading comments about somebody's podcast preclude any one from listening to them any more, anyway???

Very strange behaviour in my mind. I have avoided to read too much of the commentary on the Culture of Contact site since by the time I get around to thinking about making a comment, I can't add anything to whats been said or I'm prevented from doing so :D ... any comments I want to make can be brought up here ... I mean we're all friends around here right :D

schtick ... thinks he might check out the Book of Thoth podcast with this Lehmberg guy just to see what the fuss isn't all about.

p.s. Great interview with Ol Nick on the last Culture of Contact ... don't think he's right about the Tulpa thing but again pretty good all in all :)

Nothing like reviving a 10 month old thread, but I read through this entire thread and unless I missed it I did not see the name David Sereda. This guy is just plain nuts.

And, I have to mention Jose Escamilla - Is he still throwing out that rods crap?

Bill Knell - as if it needed mentioning.

I recall Jose coming to his senses somewhat several years ago.

Surprised if Sereda wasn't mentioned.

They aren't personalities. They are personality Disorders.

Some of the dysfunctional people in this field are also the most successful.

The ones who are hocking books, magazines, and various other bullshit merchandise are also the very same who control what is seen, control what is heard, and essentially control the money flow.

There will NEVER be any truth that comes from the UFO movement, or the UFOlogist community because to have outright undeniable truth, will pretty well spell the end of the money flow.

It will morph into the conspiracy clearing house about how long the government knew, when it knew it, and why it kept it all secret.

Bill Birnes, Stanton Friedman, Art Bell, George Noory, David Icke, Paola Harris, Whitely Streiber, and every other profiteer are not going to be the ones to break the story. It's going to be a mainstream media event that can be controlled.

The only time the average person will know the truth about any of this, is when the money stops coming in, and when those who have power over that information are dead and gone.

Well, it looks like Jose is still at it.

Roswell Rods

He is the only contact on the "Contact Us" page and his email address is [email protected]

What a load of crap. It's bugs. Take a camera with very fast film and anyone will see. God this drives me crazy.

I saw that, not sure if it's still updated though.

I saw him on a show which proved it was bugs, and he didn't resist the idea after having it spelled out to him. He seemed to then think that only a small percent of rods were something unexplained. That's why I said, "somewhat" came to his senses or whatever.

If they were running a high speed camera, and caught something like that, it would be different. Shouldn't be too hard to get one.
