Global Warming Happy Fun-Time

I don't understand. climate change is supposed to happen. glaciers are supposed to advance and retreat. if you think they are supposed to just sit there and not move and climate is supposed to stay the same, then you need to do a little research.
without climate change we wouldn't have polar bears, humans or much of anything else.

And again we get double speak from the PTB

On the one hand

The latest Climate Commission report has warned that 80 per cent of global fossil fuel reserves will have to stay in the ground if the planet is to avoid dangerous climate change
Climate Commission report says 80 per cent of fossil fuel reserves must stay in the ground - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

But

Black coal is Australia’s second-highest export commodity and Australia is the world’s leading coal exporter.
Over the past 10 years black coal exports have increased by more than 50%.

Australia’s exports of metallurgical coal are forecast to increase at an average annual rate of eight %, reaching 218 million tonnes in 2017, with total earnings forecast at $40 billion in current Australian dollars.

"By 2020, coal consumption will be 50% higher than it is today. Decreasing the use of coal and other fossil fuels in order to cut greenhouse gas emissions is simply not a realistic option for the foreseeable future." Australian Coal Association response.
Australian coal industry — No New Coal

So while we have a great big new tax on carbon, the govt continues to approve the expansion of the coal industry.

Higher coal prices have stimulated investment in the NSW coal industry with a number of new mining developments or major expansions to existing mines proceeding to development.

What a bloody con job

We need Carbon taxes to save the world they say, but then say Decreasing the use of coal and other fossil fuels in order to cut greenhouse gas emissions is simply not a realistic option for the foreseeable future.

Its classic Doublethink straight out of orwells 1984

Doublethink - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The single common factor is money, money from the carbon tax, money from new coal investments, the planet gets nothing.

Angelo as I have said MANY MANY times global warming is normal and necessary, catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is what warmists are wetting their pants about. The human caused 3% of CO2 in the atmosphere causes very minimal warming that is barely measurable. The big question has always been if the 3% human contribution were doubled would the warming affect also double. The answer is no. There has been NO warming for 17 years now even tho CO2 concentrations have risen.

The "science was settled" and there was a "consensus" back in the 70s too... but it was an ice age ready to kill us all then. :)
1970s Global Cooling Scare | Real Science

Like I've said before, that's what's nice about science, it can be changed when new evidence is presented. For now, the science regarding global warming is that humans are contributing to the warming of the planet. How much? Not "nothing" and not "Oh my god the world will end in 20 years."

No, there you are wrong. The majority of glaciers around the world are in fact retreating. They are doing so at alarming rates that are unprecedented in history. Our last ten years have seen declines equivalent to the previous 100 years. In the grand scheme of glacial balance we are tipping over like gacual calving. I encourage you to check out those links to get a different perspective on climate change. I think it's very important to separate rhetoric bought and paid for by corporate interests vs. socially responsible art and science.

sorry Burnt, you are wrong. if glaciers didn't sometimes retreat drastically we would be sitting on top of a mile of ice. the advance and retreat dance of all glaciers is the sign of a normal global climate.

I'm fully cognizant of the regular advance and retreat that glaciers undergo - that's not what I'm talking about here, nor is it what serious scientists are busy investigating around the globe as the implications of the majority of the glaciers of the world in steady and persistent retreat of unprecedented proportions is radically significant. We know that glaciers are the canary in the coal mine, as they are the most sensitive to climate change. Their constant melt and freeze should be part of a climate balance, not the imbalance we are now witnessing. What's missing is the advance part in your comfortable worldview where the climate is just doing its normal thing. I think you might want to expand your knowledge of glaciers, their history and the major message that they are sending out to the planet.

Scientists are also finding that glaciers reveal clues about global warming. How much does our atmosphere naturally warm up between Ice Ages? How does human activity affect climate? Because glaciers are so sensitive to temperature fluctuations accompanying climate change, direct glacier observation may help answer these questions. Since the early twentieth century, with few exceptions, glaciers around the world have been retreating at unprecedented rates. Some scientists attribute this massive glacial retreat to the Industrial Revolution, which began around 1760. In fact, some ice caps, glaciers and even an ice shelf have disappeared altogether in this century. Many more are retreating so rapidly that they may vanish within a matter of decades. Scientists are discovering that production of electricity, along with coal and petroleum use in industry, affects our environment in ways we did not understand before. Within the past 200 years or so, human activity has increased the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.

The corporate lobby group of science, as funded by Koch Industries, would love for all the voters to believe that "Climate Change Is Bunk," as they constantly scream, and that the retreating glaciers is just a natural event and an opportunity to drill, excavate, and frack the north to get at all that good oil and gas we missed out on last century. At some point in time you have to question who pays for climate change denial and what does it mean to support these denials.

I am glad they are retreating, it is far better than the alternative. I am all for global warming and higher CO2 concentrations. Bring it on mother nature!

Historically speaking animal and plant life forms thrive with higher temps and CO2 levels. Why do you want global cooling and no climate change anyway? You do realize you are carbon based and you emit CO2... right? Your "camp" is demonizing humans in order to bring about population control measures and a huge continuation of a transfer of wealth.

If it was all fun and games then we would not also be talking about things like the rise in sea levels, altering of migration patterns, habitat destruction, changing of wind patterns, acidifying of the oceans etc. Seems to me like there's going to be a lot more losses than gains to be had, especially when it comes to life forms - the oceans do comprise the majority of life and food sources for humans. When they acidify we'll all be in Soylent Green territory. I don't see this as a 'camp' so much as a plea to stop the devastation.

Where's the big corporate money behind the proponents of climate change - who is rolling in the cash because of it? In times of desperation there is no population control to be had; most groups that are marginalized tend to produce as many babies as possible to try to have some type of cultural, ethnic survival. If anything, the money behind the lobby group for climate change denial is all about concentrating wealth where it's always been - with the top echelon of the planet and no one else. Climate change denial strikes me as the major impass for the redistribution of wealth on this planet by handcuffing innovation and maintaing a non-renewable resource based economy.

all normal stuff or is not true. the sky is not falling. please join us. Minnesotans For Global Warming | Because It's Stupid to Politicize the Weather
Given your lack of serious response to these issues one can only conclude that you are much closer to Koch Industry funding than i first suspected, just like the website you cite.

1 in 8 bird populations are declining across the planet, and i'm sure you've heard about the whole decline/death of the bee populations - that's two major sources of pollination and seed distribution for the continuation of flora and fauna on mother earth. These things are not normal. These things are true. Yes, the sky is falling - just slowly and in ways that are easily documented. No one's paying me to read ideological, corporate driven thoughts - why bother read about the corporate bottom line courtesy of Ayn Rand's "screw you I've got the power" legacy? I learned about that ideology back in university when we studied the class system and social control.

It's actually stupid to not recognize that the weather was politicized the moment that USA, Russia and China all decided that they would wage war with each other through weather manipulation - and that happened many decades ago. Climate change denial is about promoting a lack of critical thinking in the masses by just repeating how evil that liberal media is. Don't believe the hype. Just ask why China's paying a fortune to hand pollinate fruit trees in regions where the bees are not coming back.

wow... al gore must have recruited you. are you going to start selling carbon credits too? wish i had time to enlighten you but i have a music festival to run this weekend.
no one denies climate change. i totally agree climate change happens. i am glad it does or nothing would evolve... ie: humans and polar bears.

*sigh*

enjoy the music festival; i hope all goes well.

as for evolution, or is it natural for us to destroy in hyperdrive mode while the planet recreates slowly over eons - sure thing. did it have to go down this way with us as the careless butchers, when we have the power to see all the way to the big bang and down to molecular construction? well, that's just stupid and sad.

The festival went very well thanks!

what have we humans destroyed in hyperdrive mode?
what has mother nature destroyed in the same time frame?

Skeptic does not mean to deny everything regardless of the evidence...
Right. Skepticism doesn't mean to "deny everything regardless of the evidence", it means to doubt everything regardless of the evidence, even going so far as to doubt one's self. The other form of skepticism is
the philosophical doctrine that denies the possibility of attaining knowledge of reality as it is in itself, apart from human perception, but the typical skeptic isn't aware of the latter form, and it would seem that many aren't even aware of the former, preferring instead to simply act as armchair critics.

I think that planetary extinction rates have peaked during the last 200 years vs. the other extinctions that required millennia to unfold. While we may be agents of nature, as far as an individual's species are concerned we are the awesome butchers of the planet.

you think extinction rates have peaked during the last 200 years.... not even close to a scientific assessment and a very typical style of off handed observation by "warmists". Mother Nature probably is the most harmful to the planet over humans. Earthquakes, plate tectonics, volcanic eruptions and gasses, hurricanes, glaciers, fires, etc etc etc..are all pretty violent earth changing events... so are you going to tax mother nature to halt that behavior?
