Maybe it's just because of my choice of Twitter feeds but #syria seems to have blown up over this weekend, what's next #wardrums ? I say #enoughalready

don't worry...obomba will rain down some peace, democracy and kinetic military action on their heads.

Which party occupies the White House seems to affect our foreign policy not one whit. I'm wondering why simply letting the region sort itself out is not an option. We have become a net energy exporter, in case the beltway barons haven't noticed. Life is a matter of choosing one's fights. I think this is yet another bad one.

Not sure how true all the claims in this video are, and he doesn't hide his opinion on things, but if even part of it is true it looks real bad (especially the alleged hacked documents):

Is Assad really that stupid? After being told that he'll be taken down if he uses chemical weapons, he waits until UN inspectors are there then uses chemical weapons right near his own people? What is the upside for him?

Obama has a Peace Prize, surely he'd never participate in war-mongering... :-\

Russia and possibly China seem to be on the side of Syria. Iran is on Syria's side. I'm hoping that they wise up, back off, and nothing happens. We're spread thin on other BS conflicts at the moment, the last thing we need is to pick a fight like this.

I'm surprised it's even this high. I can't imagine that the average NFL / Miley Cyrus obsessed American wants war. People don't want war. Granted, Libya was "kinetic military action". Bombing from a distance isn't war anymore thanks to the PR machine and culture of spin.

If NATO was really all about ending injustice, saving oppressed people, etc then how come they never invade or bomb any of the countries in Africa where people are living in hell?

It makes me very sad to think that many of our defenseless fellow brother and sister humans stand to be killed and maimed in the name of greed and control yet again.

The thing is why should chemical weapons be the dealbreaker? Does this mean all the other equally tragic deaths were rendered acceptable just because the people...including women snd children...were executed or got blown to bits instead?

If we are (supposedly) taking the moral high ground on this we should have gone a long time ago

I agree with Homer although I probably wouldn't mind being a diplomatic bulwark to the Russians

Don't you get it? It's simply uncouth to gas someone to death. Rather, shredding the bodies of living children with explosive shrapnel and fire is the only humane way to go.

Well, you can also consider explosives of any sort, including missiles, as weapons of mass destruction. Depends on the limits you establish for such methods of killing.

The sick thing is that Nixon was impeached and is held in our memories as an evil man when his primary crime can be summed up as "spying on the competition".

What have we seen in just the last year or two alone?

- Benghazi
- IRS being used as a weapon
- AP meddling
- Fast and Furious
- "kinetic military action" in Libya without congressional permission
- Snowden-gate (or whatever they want to call the entire spying and recording of EVERYTHING)
- who knows what other dirty shit is going on that hasn't even seen the light of day yet?

Well we still don't know what the UK and US are going to do but if you read the stuff coming out of Paris right now " il est présent dans"

not sure if that's the right translation.

Where is the proof that the Syrian military launched a gas attack on orders from the Syrian Government?
  • The Syrian Government let UN inspectors into the area to investigate. That's not the typical actions of a guilty party.
  • Definitive transparent evidence as to who is responsible for the gas attack needs to be produced before and decision on intervention is made by anyone.
  • This is a tragic attack but this attack doesn't qualify as "weapons of mass destruction" as is being hyped. Even a conventional war would be far worse.
  • At this time war on Syria is not warranted. It is their country and their problem to solve.

It's beyond sad that the American government has expended both its domestic and global credibility on issues of foreign policy. The only question remaining is if they even care.
