Last bit on 'The Prisoner' - and the way we forget social history. The 60's was one heckuvva violent time here in the US. Nothing close to the cerebral safety currently.
There were chants in the streets: "Hell, no, we won't go!"

As destructive and unsustainable as the the sixties were, there existed at that time a freedom of mind and resolution on the part of the younger generation that we refused to be marginalized and ignored. Keep in mind that Daniel Ellsberg survived and is now celebrated for his role as whistleblower. The fate of Snowden is unsure at best.
And yes-it was all a big, nasty mess. But the current scene often feels like the other extreme--a well managed, placid population shot up with mental novocaine.
