Paul the octopus had a magnificent record of getting the results right, I think he got seven out of seven results correct!
In hindsight they should of asked him some more important questions before he died :(

Yep! Such as.......

1. Who killed JFK ?
2. Were there WMD'S in Iraq ?
3. Will Mr. Horn and Mr. Meiers be proved right ?
4. What really happened in Roswell ?
5. And most important of all...When will the USA finally get into the round of 16 ?

I think that the USA finished 3rd (semi finalists) in the 1930 World cup.

I stand corrected but with a field of 13 I would HOPE that they would at least get to the consolation game.

Man, did that game deliver...(Spain vs Netherlands), about to watch Chile against Australia right now (Mike, if you read this, I don't think you stand much of a chance.. ;) )

RE: USA in 1930 World Cup:
It is not their fault some of the European teams did not enter the tournament. 3rd place was a noteworthy performance in my book.

RE: Holland v Spain:

RVP's header was fantastic!!!
I was suprised to see Spain's double substitution when they went 2-1 down, it felt to me like Del bosque panicked, I think Chile might beat them (Spain) now.

RE: Australia v Chile
Australia Should take heart from a battling performance, they played really well, but Chile are a very good team.

RE: the res of the competition:
I want Germany to win the tournament, but Klose breaking the record would be satisfactory.
I would like to see Thomas Muller join my team (Arsenal) but I don't think it will ever happen.
I think Brazil will win the Cup, but not without "assistance" ;)

Other than RVP 's header, the winning goal in the 90+ minute by the Swiss is about the coolest thing I've seen so far. Not fancy, just solid drive, determination, and a never give up attitude . It was like a last- second Hail Mary pass in U.S. football.

England have looked like the most dangerous team so far, especially if you are their physio!!!!!!

Obviously sympathy to Gary lewin (the injured physio) but only England could mange to have the guy in charge of injuries injured and stretchered off! To compound the irony they some how managed to injure him whilst "celebrating" a goal for England, it makes me wonder how many would be hurt if they won the match?

Couldn't get through, Merkel was blocking the lines. Huge relief though, didn't think it would go that well before. The US game was awesome as well, especially after that Iran - Nigeria game. Overall, Refs seem to have improved as well, still have to sleep of my headache..yesterday was good. :)

Yes, Costa Rica!!! Good thing Buffon just came out or it would have been 2-0. You can take out the Azzurri. This world cup is all about slaying the dragons and scoring lots of goals!

Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica - the Triple C Threat!

I surely haven't..Really great for them, to be quite honest, I expexted them to lose all their matches. Italy against Uruguay (old old Simpsons 'joke', get out of my head...)will be a great watch. :) Would have liked another England - Germany clash in the elimination stages though..For Spain..well, screw them, enough glory for the next 30 years.

What's the most surprising team for you so far ? My votes go to Mexicos goalie, the damn Refs and Uruguay.

Yeah, Mexico backed into the WC, courtesy of the Yanks, but they seem to be peaking at the perfect time. Screw the golden foot, this year they need to give out the golden hands to Ochoa.

As far as surprises, I'd say the rather uninspiring performance turned in...so far...by the Brazilians.
