Not sure what France was up to last night but they were not up to the task. Germany asserted itself in a great game. But after only 20 minutes into the Colombia/Brazil game I think they've generated more excitement than the whole of the previous day's quarter final.

At this rate it looks like Brazil is going to clean up Germany, as they almost always do, and march on to the finals against Netherlands. Yes, I would also love to see Costa Rica there, they give it their all every game, but it's a long shot.

For the first time ever Brazil looks like they have real goal lust in their hearts. I just don't understand what they have against playing defense? It's like everyone wants to play forward and score. Drives me crazy watching them trying to defend on the counter attack with only two guys all the time.

As much as I want a netherlands-germany final, in the end I was rooting for Costa Rica..pretty sure most of the dudes won't be able to run straight for a few days..great game

unfortunately they were outgunned, and outdistanced at the end. lots of posts getting hit by Netherlands who had most possession and shots. Costa Rica did extremely well to stay in the game right to kicks, but even there you could see that Netherlands really had a plan. changing the goalie before kicks?! WTF? never seen anything like it before. they scored all their goals, some were clinical. it was one of the great high drama games of the cup so far.

i wish Mexico was in the final four.

i'd like a north south game for the final, or the great rivals Argentina-Brasil which would be super exciting, hopefully with free flowing soccer for a full 90 minutes. really looking forward to the next games minus any slow dance, hold me close all game long crap.

Yeah, but they ran like hell (7 km more) and in the 117-120 could have made it as well..Disliked how Krul acted though, not taking anything away from saving two penalties. And now Polter and my country against the Host...I think the Neymar injury is actualy detrimental to us, they will give it all...hope we will too

Germany is tearing the Neymar less Brazilians apart. It's Gonna Be Ugly In Rio tonight.

5 nil @ the half

I would have preferred this game to have travelled more along the lines of the Netherlands/Costa Rica game. Without Silva they were lost in the back. This is Brasil's biggest world cup loss ever. I wonder if they will retire the yellow jersies after this? Will Scolari be executed at midnight? Will they even wait that long?!

Here's a good historical look at the losing outcomes following this game. It doesn't help that Mueller's trying to catch Klose's new record - lots of Germans in that top all time world cup goal scoring list. Best quote from this article: "Soccer is a simple game. 22 players chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end the Germans aways win." Thank goodness, by the time I finished typing this Germany scored only one more goal and Brasil got one for themselves 7-1 Ahh! Finally, let the comeback begin.

So Brazil finally put one in after Der Germany intentionally shanked one on the other end out of pity.

But to no avail.

Congrats to Polter and Marco/Dyingsun for Germaby making it to the finals. Thanks for taking it easy on the US by comparison.

Poor Netherlands...what did they do to be cursed as the best team to never win the world cup?

Will Argentina get payback for 1990? They look like a team ready to win the cup - just wish we could see more dynamic play from them.

Germany's famous for letting internal strife tear the team apart when things aren't going their way but this team is highly disciplined. I suspect they will be an unstoppable force

I hope this is going to be a classic match with lots of goals and none of this penalty kick nonsense. Good luck to Polterwurst and Marco, but I'm going to cheer for Argentina just to make it exciting (though I'm pretty Germany is going to take it in stride).

Can somebody explain how Messi got the player of the tournament award?
Jiminey (James) "cricket" Rodreguez*, manuel neuer, Bastian Schweinsteiger or Thomas Muller all contributed more in my opinion.
