Osama bin laden dead?

Free episodes:

People without religion can be wonderful human beings with all the attributes listed prior. I think that religion can be a good vehicle to develop those attributes but it is not by any means the only way.
So the bible is bullshit? The bible says to kill the wonderful human beings that do not believe in god.

Tongue-in-cheek or not, Iamfrank formulated a beautiful conspiracy theory. I am also impressed that while I find pixelsmith an utter dodo in some regards, I agree with him in others. In addition, I am reminded that I find rah-rah, god bless the Seals and the Walruses -- or whatever they are called -- flag-waving, drill-sergeant icon bearing, jingoistic, good vs. evil world views to be in bad taste and laughable at best, and disturbing and dangerous at worst.

Thanks?
I have never been called an utter dodo. that is fun to say... utter dodo... i like it!

Hey, what you want to believe is entirely up to you. If you want to believe it's bullshit then it's bullshit. You can find many examples of violence in the Bible, it doesn't mean that religions haven't evolved... well at least most of them.

The bible is the word of god. are you saying religion has evolved beyond the word of god?

Well, perhaps you can teach us some of your world views?

that is the least of our problems at this point.... smoke em if ya got em

i dont know... maybe. religion has killed millions over the centuries.

No maybe it's the lack of God's true will and love in those people who killed millions over the centuries. Most God faring people who are truly servants wouldn't commit the atrocities an Osama Bin Laden committed.

There are people in this world who call themselves "Christians" who could kill just as easily as he had, and these people would be just as wrong!

But God would. And he wants you to do the same! read the passages i posted above.

No, it has evolved to fit into the context of the modern times. Nobody's walking around stoning people to death, at least not in the western world. A lot of things that people used to do cannot be done anymore because modern society does not permit those things. But the basic religious tenets are the same. People do still practice a lot of the things that were done 2000 years ago in Israel as in the case of Judaism.

the basic tenets are to obey or go to hell. is that still valid?
is god coming out with a revised edition? maybe a DVD or something a little more modern?
shit... i bet god could create a pretty cool website! a god forum would be awesome too!

I'm an agnostic, but to read isolated quotes out of the bible is utterly absurd. Those texts were written more than two thousand years ago in dead languages (ancient hebrew, aramaic, ancient greek and latin) and trying to interpret them out of their cultural, historical and anthropological contexts is idiotic. In fact, such litteral readings have led to misinterpretations and, consequently, to mindless violent acts.
Is religion a basis for violence? Yes it is, but everything and anything in this world of ours has been mentioned as generating violent outbursts (individual or collective): from the bible to the quran, from gold to land, even love is in the origin of many murders. We can't explain human behavior by exclusively blaming external factors. Belief in general can turn out to be dangerous if one isn't able to separate the illusion of our own chimeras (spiritual or materialistic) from the societal realities that surround us. When one gets too far away from the basic rules that keep societies balanced, that's when things start to go awry.

Onward Christian Soldiers!!! Kill the bass turds!

Ok, let's look at the true essence of the B.S. here:

1. Pixel: You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20
Answer: Doesn't say that...it states in the original: He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed. This in no way tells anyone too kill for the sake of those who worship another God. If anything it infers God will kill and no other.

2. Pixel: Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10
This in no way stated we should kill anyone today Pixel. It was stated by Moses who cautioned against the peril that might arise from the Canaanites, and within the suffering that they were forced to be a part of because of their leaving Egypt. The idea was to protect those who followed him by defending against those that would look to do them harm. This has NOTHING to do with today's Christianity whatsoever...sorry.

3. Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7
This was Mosaic Law (meaning it was written under Moses) and once again meant as a protection against those from the Canaanites who looked to infiltrate their clans. When Christ came his followers continued to use the Hebrew Scriptures to highlight prophecies that were yet to be fulfilled, principles from the Mosaic Law that taught valuable lessons, and accounts of ancient servants of God whose fine examples encourage Christians to remain faithful. The laws written in the Mosaic context were "overridden" by Jesus's examples of "loving thy enemy", "turning the other cheek", and many other examples of his pacifistic ways. You cannot take old laws written as a story in an example for the followers of Moses out of Egypt and state that all Christians must follow thus today! It's Bullshit and you know it.

4. Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13 and Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20
Once again, protective and desperate "Mosaic" laws which became irrelevant after Christ came down to teach the sincerity of the New Testament. Every example Christ taught his disciples was based on love, peace and pacifism. Anyone even questioning this has no clue as to the historical nature of Christ, the New versus Old testament, or why Christ came to redeem our sins in the first place. It's just another anti Christian game played to make people believe that somehow Christ and his followers are not what they seem.

5. Any city that doesn’t receive the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. Mark 6:11

Here again is the real word of the Lord according to direct interpretation from Hebrew into Latin:

Mark 6:11 (King James Version)

And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Now as you clearly see, it was told to the Apostles that if the people in the city wouldn't hear what they had to say about the true Christ, then they were to leave and shake off the dust from under their feet in a symbolic gesture of ignorance....not to kill them or have anything more to do with them. GOD will take care of it like he did in Sodom and Gomorrah. GOD and his judgement on the day of judgement and not left up to the followers of the Risen Christ to do anything at all.

6. Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5

The actual verse:

Jude 1:5 (King James Version)

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Notice
the word "LORD" and not the followers of Christ to do anything.

Jesus taught those who truly wished to follow his words to be peaceful, loving, humble and without doubt, pacifistic in all ways but in the laws they must adhere to according to the state they live within....as in..... "Render onto Ceaser what is Ceaser's and Render onto God what is Gods" meant that even though we are to love thyne enemies, we are also to follow the laws of the land and KILL the enemy if he be an enemy and commanded to do so by the state.

Please get it correct next time you choose to attempt to make the Christian faith out to be some hate filled religion. If one truly follows the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, one is ALWAYS the exact opposite than a hate filled person, evil doer, or a murderer. Anything less (and unforgiven by the Redeemer) will be severely judged by the Lord upon judgment day.

you should read it sometime. it might anger you too. if it doesn't i will tell you about the bible "tutoring" i received from my pastor.

pick a different version of the bible. they all read different.

Sorry, they read in "interpretation" differently. They mean the same or close to the same. I interpret from the original Hebrew to Greek to Latin and no other. The words are sometimes abstract because some words didn't have a meaning in the original language. This didn't make them "different" just more abstract in the overall example.

so was the hebrew version written by the hand of god or humans?

Let's skip the isolated quotes and go right to the Big Story in the Old Testament. The Hebrews -- God's chosen people -- went into the Land of Canaan and wiped just about everyone out and set up their own kingdoms. The Hebrews believed that Yahweh told them to do this and that He was actually helping them in their conquest. The only people left when the Hebrews got through were the Philistines -- a very interesting people whose name now stands for "horrible non-believers". The story of David's ascent to the throne reads like something out of the Sopranos. He was a dangerous power-hungry guy who lied, cheated, stole, and murdered his way to the crown.

After a relatively short period of prosperity, the Kingdoms of Judea and Israel were overrun by more powerful groups. The rest of the Old Testament is a lament for what the Hebrews lost and various prophetic utterances about how either they brought this on themselves by turning their back on God -- or how they would one day get it all back with the arrival of a Messiah. The New Testament picks up the story here and presents Jesus -- a Jewish prophet/healer -- as this Messiah. He is killed because he threatens the official priesthood in Jersusalem. The Romans approve Jesus' execution because they back this puppet priesthood. Only after Jesus is dead do we hear the story of the anticipated return of the Jesus Messiah -- which was supposed to occur very soon -- but we are now in the third millennia of this anticipation.

There you have it -- the Old And New Testaments in two paragraphs. I recommend reading Isaac Asimov's "Guide To The Bible"

I thought some here might like this stained glass window. it pretty much shows what my pastor liked to do...
