UFO Hunters

Free episodes:

I only watched one of the first episodes and thought is was very bad.

I just have to ask why did Bill call a guy a hybrid?
Did the guy think he was one or look different. Did he have some weird DNA or what??

Yeah, they kind of flushed an opportunity away here. The last one I saw (Vortexes) made very little sense to me. The dowsing rod part, for example, was very interesting to me. I use dowsing rods and pendulums in my magic all the time because, without any gimmickery, I can make them react in a volunteer's hands... so I wasn't impressed when I saw the rods come out. In fact, I almost quit right there. Then they blindfolded the intern guy and got a strong reaction and I perked right up. That was interesting. The DIY fake-SteadiCam set up to eliminate the hands from moving was inspired, but it was hardly a resolution. That should have been followed up with more because they still didn't explain the blindfolded response and the second camera only confirmed that the human element is necessary... waving a magnetic field reader around was not at all enough. Why there wasn't time for that but they always have time for the pointless mad scientist bullshit is beyond me... Again, what a golden opportunity wasted.

Ok, I just saw the premier episode and thought it was pretty ok.

Hehe. Yeah, THAT UFO Hunters was pretty ok. The only problem is THAT show was on the Sci-Fi channel, doesn't have any association with Birnes and has been canceled. The problems will become more apparent when you watch the UFO Hunters show that airs on the History Channel, does feature Bill Birnes, and is doing an outstanding job of peeing in the pool.

Or maybe you knew this and were just being sarcastic?

No, I didn't know it. I wondered if the ufo hunter show I saw was the same one you all were referring to. Apparently it wasn't. Which is good, thought I was losing my skeptical edge since I didn't find too much fault with the one I linked. If I catch a episode of the History CH ones, I'll get back with yal maybe:)

Yes, that's the Sci-Fi one. Not great, but leaps and bounds in front of the History Channel one, which I've stopped watching, and every time I try anyway, a minute or two make me turn it off.

If someone pulls off an ok ufo show.. I'm happy. I got done reading a time table top book that deals with the paranormal. They said Betty and Barney got abducted from bed, had Kenneth Arnold's sighting's date wrong, fuked up Stanton Friedman's book title... I mean how fukin hard is it to get simple facts straight? Especially when dealing with stuff that has already been dealt with 1000 times? For some reason, the topics that interest us, turn mainstream dolt's brain's to mush. Seriously. It's a big a mystery as the mysteries we ponder.

Because my iPod is broken and I need noise to work, I have the lest UFO Hunters on... at least when Bill Birnes declares the guy a hybrid the other dude (I don't know what his name is... the guy who looks like Danny Bonaduce) calls him in it. That made me feel better...

Somewhere a hobby store is completely sold out of airplane glue.

common sense says the nearest Deli is sold out of Cheese as well

i envisage a mad scene a cross between the larger apartment from the TV show friends and the lounge scene from close encounters. the floor strewn with empty glue tubes and the little red wax covers of those tiny cheese's that come covered in little red wax covers...

and some sort of garish monument made of cheese as a centerpiece

UFO Hunters - Alien Hybrid episode

Like almost every episode I've seen, it is almost hilarious to think that anyone sane would seemingly try to GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to mess something up so badly. Is it supposed to be a joke?

There are two things of any interest at all in the episode:

1) The video, which, of course, they never send to a REAL video analyst, just to "Doctor Ted". Where was Macabbee (hey, better than using Dr. ted)?

2) The Creatinine-whatever levels the two men supposedly shared. Sure, they talk up a storm about Terrell's levels, but then only whisperingly hint that the other guy's levels MIGHT be a bit high. if you notice, the Doctor does NOT come out and say that categorically. The video seems very evasive right there in that part. Damnit! Can't they EVER just handle ONE point properly and state something directly? I mean, they frikking hint at potentially interesting (very) evidence and then just sort of crap all over it!

ARRRRGH!

The fat guy could have had a heart attack, not even known it, and it would drive up the creatine levels. Hell, he could have had a Creatine energy drink that morning.

Good lord. This show to me is absolutely hilarious to watch.

Did anyone see the latest episode on the Texas sightings? I was only half watching, but it seemed to be one of the more sensible episodes. Still, I managed to fix my iPod so I can go back to The Misfits and Social Distortion while I work...

You know, I wish that the show would improve. It has a nice budget (at least for post production) and had so much promise. It would probably at this point, though, be better if it went to more of a UFO Files format. Or get way more pro-active and get to places as sightings are being reported. Right now, they aren't hunting much...

Agreed. Bill and the gang acted much more sensibly, in my opinion. I still wish they would present everything more methodically and in better order, sort of like a CSI investigation or Dragnet episode, flow-wise. They could just present the "story", list the claims, interview the witnesses, address any real evidence with experts, and then have a small round-table assessment of the situation to wrap it all up, whether they decide that it warrants more attention or seems to be a complete dud like the Cessna crash episode. There's no need for any ridiculous stretched assumptions like Birnes making the hybrid claim in a recent show - nothing like that should even remotely happen until the last part of the show, the wrap-up discussion.

Last week's was good enough to hook me in for this week's episode. Although I never did sit down and closely watch the show, it seemed much more sensible... I guess there wasn't a need to generate any hype around something that was decades old and probably unfamiliar to the audience. Even the experiment (often the most pointless part of the show) seemed a reasonable exercise. Still, I think I would rather have MonsterQuest putting on new episodes! Perhaps UFO Hunters, if it sees a second season, should concentrate on being a rapid response unit; they seem to have more of a focus and less need to fill time. It also probably wouldn't hurt if there was an episode where they all kind of looked at each other and agreed that something was utter BS and cut their losses for the week!

OK, I agree with some of the posts here that the show has made some mistakes & introduced some evidence that was suspect at best. However in balance I think they are doing a decent job in broadening the publics' awareness of the topic & bringing to light some cases that I had not heard of before. The frustrations voiced here are the same one would voice on the bulk of the UFO field in general, i.e. there is next to nothing repeatable or scientifically testable. I think the show is doing the best with what it is out there & available to anyone with a tv show and reasonable budget. They have made some interesting revelations: the Renedlsham lighthouse beam being blocked in the direction of the base, the tests with blindfolded dowsing to name two.

Can we perhaps change the topic to how you would make the show better rather than the problems with the current show? How would you guys change the show? Where would you seek evidence? What would you have them investigate? I suspect this show will stick around for another season and it seems like the Paracast guys actually might have a voice to the makers of the tv show, so why not give them some constructive advice?

Personally I think we should all band together and get a dedicated paranormal tv station on cable so we could get some real depth in these topics, rather than overviews of the same material ad nauseam.

I look at this show as a means to get people interested in the phenomenon, by way of infotainment.

It's not substantial at all, and it lacks a lot of depth. It's one step away from becoming Mythbusters.
